Hey guys! I have been busy lately, and here is a new amp for me. I found this cool little speaker grille in some old car parts and I just had to make something out of it! I had an 8 ohm output tranny from an early 60's console stereo that I cannibalized for parts, the knob and grille cloth are from the same stereo. I got a Classictone PT and some 2X6 boxed aluminum and made a 5f1.The pot is a 1 meg push/pull switch, I wanted it kind of minimalist and 60's looking. The speaker is a Weber 8 in alnico Sig.I don't take good photos, but here it is anyways.I driiled some holes around the switch pot and installed the pilot light inside the chassis so the vol knob would glow using a couple of the neon bulbs. I think I am going to get a pair of 6 volt style lights to make it brighter though. Everything is a work in progress after all!!!

That may be the coolest 5f1 I have ever seen.
The saying about, if I had that amp and you had a feather..we'd both be tickled come to mind.
Again, way cool.

Super-duper cool! Looks vintage alright. Is it just me or does that PT look over sized?

I just gotta ask, what kind of car would have a speaker grill like that!?

But I have to say that is gorgeous. Beautiful job on the tolex, esp around the knob and jacks! COOL!

Thanks!I don't know,it was probably an after market custom part for a car with the speaker in the middle of the back seat like an old imala or something similar

Thanks Keith! It seems big to me too,but it is the one Classictone sells for al the champs and princetons -40-18019 which is the cross ref for 125P1B or 022772. Here's a pic of the chassis , I like using this aluminum because you can drill and tap it for bolts,

And a gut shot. I used an old tag board from some other old amp-I like to re-use as much as possible.

Hot Diggity! That's one eye catcher!

I did some noodling on Google.

Probably made by Arkay. They sold a lot of tube kits for radios and test equipment back when Bakelite was the hot thing.

Interestingly enough, one of there radio kits was model# 53E. Go figure, huh!

You can find chrome and black anodized re-makes on Ebay but they have a crappy looking perforated panels between all those bars. Real sound blockers.

Too bad the cars didn't have stereos in them back in those days!
