New Guy with Odd Red Tele

Hi, all! New guy here who is actually a BASSIST... don't shoot me... I have a Tele.

It was a given to me by my father before he passed away, and I've always wondered about what model this might be, or what it might have been originally. It's got three EMG's and a red bowling ball finish. Ive done the Google image searches and have not seen another one like this. The neck says "made in usa" and the six0digit serial starts with N91.

Any ideas? Figured this was THE place to ask!

Based on your photos and according to guitar dater project-I looked up that serial# and it was made in Corona Ca 1990.

Dumb question but, what kind a nut is that? Never seen one like that before. Oh, and welcome!

Yes, I think that's right.

The unusual feature is that separate bridge and the square plate that holds the rear single-coil. I could see that that might have held a HB at one time, and there's no telltale signs of a larger traditional Tele bridge baseplate ever having been mounted on this guitar.

Plays good, it's either been modded VERY professionally and refinished, or it's a really obscure factory model. Either way, it's a keeper.

I'd guess it's a sort of compensated nut.

I think its one of the roller nuts they fitted to strat ultra`s and the like. And maybe it should have had the lace sensors rather than EMG`s.

I think its a Tele Deluxe plus, with changed pickups.like this one 10 posts down.

The bridge pu appears to be an RT, wich is the alnico version, because of the gold logo.
The neck and middle one looks like being strat pickups, if the logo is silver, they are ceramic S ones , if the logo gold, they are alnico SAs (I can't really tell, on one photo they look gold, on the other silver). The T-set's neck pickup is thinner than the ones in your guitar, so we can rule that out.

Bargoedboy, I think you've got it. Same type bridge, nut, and finish as that Strat Ultra... gotta be the same "issue" in a Tele format!

Bargoedboy has the right of it, it's a roller nut! I've only ever seen them fitted on guitars that have a tremolo bridge... Fitting one on a Tele, cool!
