Tele Wide Range Humbucker sound

Has anyone here had the opportunity to compare an original Fender Wide Range Humbucker with the current reissues?

I just read an interesting Wikipedia article that explains how the originals are constructed quite different from the reissues - with the originals having a totally unique design and the reissues being more or less the same as a typical Gibson PAF style pickup.

I understand that the originals were voiced to sound more "Fender-ish", like a fat single coil?

I'm mainly wondering how the originals sound with overdrive and distortion... fat, warm and juicy? or thin, brittle and trebly?

Thanks

I've got a Seth Lover HB in a '74 Custom. It's not what I would call Fender-ish at all. It's a very open but full sound. You can hear it at 2:12 here (http://soundcloud.com/e-christina-herr/bluebirds-041612).

I don't overdrive it with this band, (nothing online for you to hear), but it has a really great humbucker sound when cranked...maybe not as much grind as a Gibson, though.

Do a search on telenator, he's the authority here for WRHB!
