New pedal arrived in the mail this week. The Wampler Plextortion. I've been comparing it to the Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret already on my board.
Whew. Tough choice. They're both very good at what they do. But one needs to go.
DLS - What a great sounding pedal. This gets about as close as I can think to a JCM800 as could be possible with a pedal. It's very amp-like in it's response and stacks great before my Tim. The DLS does a range from very mild OD to crunchy Marshall....but won't get up to anything resembling high gain. The pedal cleans up so nicely without getting thin sounding.
Plextortion - A somewhat more modern take on a Marshall....past JCM800 maybe? It's got a huge range of dirt....mild to wild. It started sounded very familiar to me. Hmmmm....yep, I pulled out my OCD and they're similar in many ways. With the Plextortion, I'm liking the brighter, dirtier tones rather than the subtle stuff. It doesn't clean up quite as well as the DLS....the dirt goes down but it also thins out. But, it's probably more flexible than the DLS.
Anyway....the jury is still out on the Plex. I've been flipping pedals too quickly lately...I think I'll just let this one linger a bit before making a final conclusion. But for now, the DLS remains on the board.
