Hi Folks,
Well I’m a newbie here, got my first Tele yesterday. I’ve played Strats most of my playing life and decided to get a Tele which I’ve always wanted. I’d been looking at sunburst ones for years and figured that’s what I would end up with but all my Strats are sunburst and so I started looking about 2 or 3 months ago at the 52’ RI…. After looking at new and used I decided I wanted something older (well, just not new @$1,600:shock:) and started my search. I finally found what I wanted and here it is and $900:razz: is what I got it for. I was thinking about a Bigsby but now thinking about a different bridge and saddles. Possibly Glendale or Callaham but there are so many choices and right now (with no knowledge yet) am not sure what to get. I’m also not sure if the re-wire was done right but that’s no big deal as my Guitar guy can look at that. I would like to find the schematic and compare what’s been done to it, the capacitors look a little different for some of the pix on here of the altered wiring. Everything else is stock. 10-27-1997 is on the neck….

Thanks Pine,
T've noticed here alot tend to frown on the darker colored neck , but I love it.... and the pic does make it a little darker than it really is....

Welcome to the TDPRI and congrats on a very nice guitar! It looks really great in the pics.
I also have a 52RI and I love it. Put a Glendale double cut bridge plate and compensated Twang saddles on it and am very happy with that. I also have a 4-way switch and a phase reversal switch (push pull on the tone knob), but I have realised that I could have made do with a modern wired three way. Oh well...

I say definitely no Bigsby for that one, but that's just my opinion. Let your 52 be a 52. My 52 is my #1 guitar, I put a Duncan Antiquity bridge pickup and a OC Duff Guardsman neck pickup and I'm very happy with both. I also love my Glendale cold-rolled steel plate and compensated brass saddles. I even got the fat neck plate, for kicks. Love Dale's stuff. As far as pickups go, there's so many great boutique winders ( Duncan, Lollar, OC Duff, Don Mare, Klein... ). Do some research, go to the websites. My view of my AVRI 52 is that it is a very good guitar but a few upgrades can make it even better. JMHO YMMV
