P bass strap button placement

Hello, i have a Classic Vibe P Bass and i noticed with a strap it seems to set too horizontal naturally unlike the 50's p basses. Like the strap button on the upper horn of this one

well my question is if i move it to the 1956 position can i just leave the old hole filled with wood glue?

I would put some type of strap lock on it and not worry about it.

Leo Fender said where the strap button SHOULD be.
But in real life, every worker placed it where he liked to.

For most Precisions from 51-56 even the position in the upper photo is too "straight"!
Most Precisions had their buttons 1/4" to 1/2" more turned to the neck. If you prolong the "screw line", it has to show to the middle of the 10th or 11th fret!

You can move it to the 56 position - but I woudn't ...

A bit off-top, but... How about the strap button on the rear of a neck? There isn't one on 51' P? How about the 60's Telecaster Bass and 70's Telecaster II Bass? Both are kinda always photoed en face and I wonder if to put a strap button on my custom Telecaster Basses neck just for the oldschool vibe...

I checked out recent photos from gigs where I was playing the CV 50's bass and I see the same angle as the one above with Jerry Lee Lewis. My strap is longer but the angle seems to be the same.

Don't you think that the angle has something to do with an individual's playing comfort? ie I think I probably play all my guitars and basses with a similar angle and that is probably different than someone else playing the very same instrument.

I see, I have notice the same with pictures of me playing the bass. Just figured with the same placement it would go automaticly go there. Must be like you said about playing comfort

Speaking of strap button placement i am wondering if it becomes a significent factor in reducing neck dive.

I know we talked about strap buttons in recucing neck dive but it was in regard to the rear button location. My concern is the comparison of neck buttons as opposed to horn buttons. Or does it really matter or make a difference? Thanks & taake care. Bob

The placement of the horn button doesn't matter as long as it is "at the horn".

I think Leo Fender's most genius deed was, to build instruments with horns. Even though I am a Telecaster guitar freak, the strap placement at the 12th fret via horn made electrical guitars much better to wear.

I think another position of the rear button only makes sence, if you want extreme bass tilting.

If you do that, ream out the button for the next fatter wood screw size.
And longer too, of course.

I've got a guitar with the top button inches out from where it was first installed.
