Swamp Thang trouble

Hey there,

I finally got a Swamp Thang tremolo a couple of weeks ago, the older black version with a speed knob. The thing is, it sounds REALLY good, but it`s so damn noisy. Much more noise than any of my other pedals. When it`s bypassed it`s dead silent, so it`s only noisy when engaged. I`ve tried differenet batteries, different power supplies/adapters, different jacks, different rooms/houses/amps... So the problem is probably the pedal itself? Hard to explain the noise, it`s almost like the sound when you really crank an amps overdrive, but only a bit worse. ( white noise? )
Anyone else with this problem? I`ve already sold my empress, so I really need a working tremolo

Thanks,
Michael.

Where in the signal chain is the tremolo? Are you using only that pedal into a clean amp? Seems like you've checked all other possibilities for noise - the only one(s) that are left for me is to which pedal(s) the Swamp Thang is connected.

Hey, a bit late to reply here :)
Yeah, I tried all possibilities; different places in the signal chain and also directly into the amp. But no difference! Too bad, since it`s a great sounding tremolo!

Did you spray some cleaner into both switches and work them? Ditto with the pots. Mine was a bit noisy, I actually sent it back for repair, but the builder said it was fine... it came back silent. I'll bet all it needed was a good cleaning. Certainly worth a try, it's the best pedal trem I've ever owned, and I've owned ALOT.

ruger9, I actually thought of that after I returned the pedal. But I don`t think it was that, I think it was too noisy for that. So I`ve ordered a clone from a pedal builder, I just hope it sounds as good as the ST.

Keep us informed...

Will it be in the same size box? Because it doesn't need to be... I always hated the tall profile of the ST box, it's not necessary.

Will do. He said it will ship tomorrow, so hope to have it next week. I actually don`t know about the size, but I ordered with the tempo switch.
Yeah, agree, the tall profile on the ST is not necessary at all.
