Hi guys, first time builder here….
Bought some templates & here is my first try….My issue is serious grain is showing thru the paint…My house is very small so no garage & no spray gun...only rattle cans….I used Duplicolor primer filler & ford Red enamel & was wondering on the next body If I should use some Shellac before the filler to stop the grain from showing??? The body blanks I made are from Alder.

You'll want to do more prep work before spraying. Get everything really nice and smooth. On alder, I will put at least a few coats of Zinsser Seal Coat and sand that till smooth. At that point, you're ready for primer, paint or whatever you'er going to use. Alder doesn't typically require grain filler per se...but you do want to seal that wood and sand back for a good starting point.

I use those little black sponges on a stick. Make sure to work fast, because shellac gets sticky fast. Apply it thin and quickly. On necks I apply with a cloth though...

That finish is so rough, that I kinda' LIKE IT....... It has that early amusement park paint look. That color of red is great.... Very "fun to play" looking axe...
