Custom Tele/Esquire Colors of the 1950's

Hey guys, So im working on this tele project, its a 1959. It has been refinished but theres several layer of thick grey auto primer under the blonde nitro that needs to be taken off.
I want to refin it again and Im wondering if anyone knows about the custom color teles of the late 50's

Blonde is my favorite on a tele/esquire but its just so common, I wanna do something unique but relatively vintage correct. Iknow sunburst was a custom color of that era, as well as black. But was there anything else or did fender not really break out the color charts until the 60's?

Also, how would you guys suggest the removal (its nitro) of the finish WITHOUT SANDING. I am too inexperienced with sanding and refuse to come anywhere near the edges of the body with sandpaper or spending hundreds of dollars to have someone strip it and refin it.

I am pretty experienced with Reranch's nitro aerosol cans. So im most likely going to go that route.
any help is appreciated. thanks!

Most of the memorable colors like Surf Green, Seafoam, Sonic and Daphne blue were not rolled put until 1960. Fiesta red too.

Does it have to be a period correct 1959 refinish? Maybe someone else can chime in on what non blonde or sunburst colors actually were available pre 1960. Olympic white maybe?

The book "The Stratocaster Chronicles" shows some examples of rare but original late '50s Stratocaster finishes, so I suppose you could use those. Colors pictured include gold, a late '59 in Daphne Blue, a '57 in Lake Placid Blue (!), a '55 in "Cimarron Red" that looks like Dakota Red and a '58 in Dakota Red.

Ahh yes I always forget Dakota Red. But if Daphne blue would pass for a '59 like the previous poster indicates then that would take my vote. Just a touch of reranch's tinted clear warms it up.

To answer the other question about stripping without sanding.... get at least a quart of lacquer thinner and a plastic scraper. No metal, it will gouge the wood. Let it soak in while in a garbage bag or similar (the thinner will evaporate quickly otherwise) and then scrape away. Have plenty of paper towels on hand and a good hour to spend on it.

Yes it does have a period correct finish, it is a very nicely worn blonde. But like I said theres a few ugly layers of auto primer underneath. But im thinking a cutsom mixed gold? Im not a huge fan of the copper type golds or yellow types. but maybe a nice tannish brown hue gold? Thats just what ive been debating...still love colors that show woodgrain like blonde though :/ so many choices.
