YOGA64 June 9th, 2012, 03:45 PM Has anyone installed one of these pickups in the neck position of a Squier Classic Vibe Tele?
Is there any need to cut some wood away, or is ther enough room already?
Thanks for all your help!
YOGA64 June 11th, 2012, 05:04 AM Like, no one..................???
DeepSouth June 11th, 2012, 05:49 AM From what I've heard about them you need a custom route - but I don't have them. I'm pretty sure Jason Lollar has routing templates for them on his site.
androo June 12th, 2012, 10:53 AM Hey there Yoga. I've put a Lollar CC in the CV50. I did not need to route anything. It was close, real close. But it worked out fine. In the end, I went back to stock configuration.
Good luck to you!

YOGA64 June 12th, 2012, 06:11 PM Hey androo, Super thanks!!!!
YOGA64 June 14th, 2012, 01:26 PM So, for anyone who's interested,
yes I have installed it in a Squier Classic Vibe 50, with no modifications needed whatsoever, apart for a newly cut pickguard.
By the way, the stock bridge pickup is a very good match for the Lollar Charlie Christian, being on the Broadcaster side, hottish at 8.9 K.
These guitars, besides being VERY GOOD instruments in their own right, are a very good way to experiment with pickups, without having to cut them up.
All in all, it was a fun project, and I'm really pleased with it............

garymaddox June 14th, 2012, 01:49 PM It looks classy. So what does the route look like beneath the pickguard?
62 Jazzmaster June 14th, 2012, 01:55 PM I'd love to try that modification, looks great!
Sean65 June 14th, 2012, 02:26 PM How does the pickup sound on it's own and in the middle position?
YOGA64 June 14th, 2012, 03:36 PM Well, the route underneath looks like a humbucker sized one.
So I guess we can fit a standard single coil, tele or strat type, a P90, a humbucker or a Charlie Christian. Just about anything we want.
The pickup sounds great, jazzy but clear at the same time with a wonderful harmonic content, that's the best way I can describe it.
In the middle position you gain quite a bit of clarity, provided you set the pickups at the "correct" height, i.e. low at the neck and a bit higher than usual at the bridge.
I'm mostly a fingerstyle player, so this is what I get:
neck - jazz, jump blues
neck+middle - a great Merle Travis sound
bridge - the usual 50's Tele sound, on the Broadcaster side
Hope this helps, I'm surely not disappointed I did this mod, and it is fully reversable if I wish.

Thanks man, that a useful description. I found this You tube clip of Tim Lerch showing his pickup.
