averageplayer June 8th, 2012, 04:46 PM So I saw a USED Fiesta Red Jazzmaster at guitar store. It is an MIJ. The store manager told me it was a '93-'94. It was priced at $700. Is this a good deal? comes with gigbag as well. I am not sure because on ebay, I see them going for anywhere between $750-850.
MahoganyMan11 June 8th, 2012, 04:55 PM Sounds solid to me. some MIJ's have been compared to MIA. some like them more. maybe ask the guy if there's anything he can do for the price, if not its all about the playability. if you like it and it plays, well get it.
averageplayer June 8th, 2012, 04:59 PM oh and the reason im unsure about it being a good deal is with tax its about $750
Jazzmasterfan June 8th, 2012, 06:20 PM I've got a 94/95 MIJ candy apple red jazzmaster. Bought it new for approx us$ 750 and upgraded the pups to Seymour Duncan. Very happy with it but wonder if you could get yours for a little less.
averageplayer June 8th, 2012, 06:47 PM I tried negotiating, but they wouldnt budge. Guitar prices in general have gone up so much these days. I remember when a MIM standard tele/strat was only $299 new, and that was w/o haggling lol. now its like $450 i think.
dog fart June 8th, 2012, 08:51 PM Let's look at your options. You have a Jazzmaster you can hold in your hands, look over and play. Or for the same cash you can buy one off of e-bay that might have some serious flaws that the seller hasn't mentioned. It might be a fake, who knows.
The shop I frequent charges a different rate for service depending on where the guitar was bought. If you buy the local you should be able to get some service done on it if needed for free, or at a reduced rate. That won't happen with e-bay.
$750 for a MIJ is as good a deal as your likely to find this side of Craigslist. Whether or not that's a good deal depends on how much you value these things. Good luck and if you get the Jazzmaster post pics. I'd like to see them, I'm a sucker for new guitar purchases

+1
Around $700 is as good as you are going to get for a MIJ Jazzy. If it is B&B it will go for more.
On the plus:
Fiesta red
MIJ Quality is very good (Electronics are universally disliked - Pickups being the first to go)
You can play it and make sure it works for you
On the Negative:
......
......
Well, for a couple hundred more you could get an AVRI but not in Fiesta Red
caliban335 June 8th, 2012, 09:13 PM That seems a little high to me. You'll want to swap out the pickups for Duncans, Novaks or something else truer to the original Jazzmaster pickup design. The pickups in the MIJ/CIJ Jazzmasters are wound and sound more like Strat pickups.
DrumBob June 9th, 2012, 12:26 AM That's what I paid for my MIJ JM a few years ago. Mine is Candy Apple Red with a matching headstock. Great guitar. Plays beautifully and stays in tune all night.
Singin' Dave June 10th, 2012, 01:27 PM $700 is a pretty good price. MIJ JMs are darn fine guitars, especially as noted above, with a pup swap. I scored my CIJ CAR JM for a great price of $625 with Novaks and a mustang bridge already installed and in a G&G case a few years back and just love that guitar.
If you like the guitar, your not going to do much better than $700 unless you get very lucky.
Mike Eskimo June 10th, 2012, 01:41 PM Make sure you love (not like ) the neck, make sure there's a hard case, and make sure they set it up exactly how you want it set up.
Then - buy it !
Full disclosure : I like MIJ's far more than MIA's...
