I've got a bit of Strat fever right now, but I'm not ready to rush into buying one. I've been trying to figure out all this Strat stuff, but in the mean time, I might as well drop a Strat pup in my currently Esquired CV50. This guitar will be used primarily for slide in standard and open tunings. I'm looking for something with a little more output, is a good match for the stock bridge pup, but still sounds Straty.

I was thinking a Texas Special might work nicely, and I'd like to keep the cost around $50. I like Seymour Duncan pups a good bit, but I'm not opposed to something less expensive like Tonerider or GFS. Thanks!

Just bear in mind that you might need to cut some wood to get it to fit, and you'll have to make the pickguard hole bigger.

Try either one of Bill Lawrence's L280s or L200/202s, which are also offered in Tele size and have a perfectly clear Fender-style tone. They're also both noiseless.

Thanks guys. My CV50 is routed for a HB, and may decide to go Stealth Esquire. I'll Check out Bill's pups. Any more suggestions?

Try the "Bourbon" by Rose Pickups. American Made. Strat-y tones. $40 + shipping. I love mine.

I've listened to a lot of samples based on your suggestions, and even had a couple of vendors made some recommendations as well, which I really appreciate, and I want to thank everyone. There was some good stuff out there, but I made my decision on three things. 1) I went with my gut, 2) the pickup I chose, I had been happy with when played in stores in the past, and 3) a killer YouTube video. So which pup did I go with? I went with Fender's Texas Special Strat neck pup. I think I'll be happy with this one, but time will tell. Parts have been ordered, and will hopefully arrive by Friday. Thanks again, and here's the video I mentioned earlier.

Rumpelstiltskin or Fralin "Blues Special" ...either one will give you what you want. Both guys will guide you toward the amount of winding.

i'd recommend trying an alnico V strat pup in the 6k resistance range. with a good tele bridge pup and a strongish strat neck pup, you'll have the best of both worlds.

remove the strat cover so that it will fit the tele pickguard without a need for modification. if you feel better about it, wrap a layer of black electrical tape around the strat coil - but none is really needed.

choose the strat pup wisely - make sure the top polarity of the pup is reverse of the bridge pup. you can check pup polarity with a simple, cheap magnetic compass ...
