Ping vintage tuners?

How are the Ping vintage tuners (as on the mim guitars that use them)?
They seem to be rather affordable on ebay. Are the Gotoh Klusons that much better? I'm thinking of going to vintage tuners for the look and stringing ease.
I have a MIM standard with the modern Pings right now. They seem fine as far as staying in tune.

Pings are of mediocre quality, although they are serviceable and actually seemed to have gotten a bit better over the last few years.

They're nowhere near as good as Gotohs or Tone-Pros Klusons though.

Thanks Kevin! I don't really need tuners, but it doesn't stop me from wanting them!
I replaced my modern MIM bridge with a vintage bridge and I would like to complete the look by adding vintage tuners. I have some GFS Wilkinson vintage tuners on my Strat and really like the way the strings are installed on the vintage tuners.

They have been just fine on my Classic Series Esquire. But, if you're looking for replacement tuners, I'd go with Gotohs...top-notch quality, and they're only about $40 shipped from Stew-Mac.

That's kinda what I was thinking. The pings are available cheap, but the gotohs are better tuners. I really like my MIM standard and the gotohs seem like the best choice in the long term.

Ping? - great tuners.

I've got cheaper nastier ones that are 50yo and still work just fine.
So long as they move smoothly when they are supposed to and don't when they shouldn't.
Besides the Pings hide the sharp tail end of the string and the Gotohs don't.

Huh?

Gotoh GK1LC models (vintage Kluson copies). $35 per set at Warmoth (http://www.warmoth.com/Gotoh-Vintage-Tuners-Set-of-6-Left-Side-Chrome-P966C728.aspx).

If a guitar has the Pings I leave them alone but I would never buy anything but the Gotohs.

I wondering if anyone has tried the Tonepro kluson tuners (Model TKPF6B)? They use a bolt type bushing instead of the press in type bushing. It seems like an easier (no reaming involved) way to get vintage type tuners onto a guitar with 10mm bores.
