Hi everyone, I’m new here....
Part time gigging musician in a cover band who plays about 5 times a month…
I have about 12 electric guitars but only one tele....
The tele is probably my cheapest build but surprisingly one of my best sounding guitars…
It consists of a Mighty Mite body & neck with locking tuners & graphtech nut & saddles…
The pups are Fenders Noiseless cobalt scn pups…They are now discontinued & I’m currently cutting some bodies & wanted to buy another pair….

I wrote fender this email:

Can you tell me why these were discontinued? These are the best pickups I have ever heard that I put in my tele & I would like another set to go into another tele of mine! The vintage noiseless ones are NOT the same to me.! Will you ever re-release them? What were the specs so I don’t have to check…?
Thanks,

Their response:

These pickups were produced in conjunction with Bill Lawrence under specific licensing, and this agreement is no longer in effect, and the pickups will not be re-released.
The specs are:
Bridge - DC Resistance: 13.8 K, Inductance: 4.9 Henries Neck - DC Resistance: 12.0K, Inductance: 2.6 Henries

With that said, anyone know a bridge pup that is very close to this? It has some of the best volume clean up I have ever heard & with the guitar volume on 10 it almost sounds like a humbucker….

Thanks,
-Mark

I called Bill and asked him why Fender said the agreement is no longer in effect. He said it's the first time he heard it's no longer in effect, he doesn't know anything about it.

I'd give Bill and Becky a call and see what they suggest. 877-647-2651 (Tollfree)

I see them on eBay sometimes. You see more of the Strat pups than the Tele's but they do roll around.

FWIW, my bro has them in them in his am deluxe strat, they sound very very good. We were going to replace them with duncan antiquities... No need! You can still get feedback if you crank the amp and stand in front. But no hum. We were sitting around at my buddy's and my brother picked it up and started playing. My friends were shocked it was still on and turned up. Very quite, nice job of capturing that vintage tone.

Got SCN's in my 86' Japanese strat, I like the sound but (like most noiseless pups) one is on the way out - middle pup is humming - only 7 months old too!

There's a set on ebay right now but they're in a loaded pick guard @ $242.

I've had my SCN Tele pickups for about 6 years and they are by far my favs. A broad range of useable tones, clear, crisp, equally-balanced notes . . . I could go on and on about how much I like them. They came in a Deluxe Ash Telecaster, and I now have them in a Partscaster. Bill Lawrence designed them

http://www.billlawrence.com/Pages/SCNHistory.htm

and they're technically humbuckers or more correctly, stacked humbuckers

http://www.stratoblogster.com/2009/03/samarium-cobalt-noiseless-pickups.html

I was shocked when Fender discontinued them, and they're already hard to find and pricy. If you can find them, grab 'em.

I know that I'll never part with mine.
