wizard_23 June 7th, 2012, 02:26 AM Hi there,
I'm just about to embark on building some headshells and 4x12's for my Ceriatone's and I'm thinking of going down the duratex route instead of tolexing. Anyone on here done this with their builds? Would love to hear how it went and see some pics.

Sorry, never used this stuff. But the video commercial makes it look easy enough. As a painter, I would say that the pros would include the ability to touch up any future dings. If you're needing a road-worthy 'industrial' coating, it sounds like a good idea. As long as you like black, white or your own mix of grey! (That's the con)
You can get this Down Under? Yikes, anything like this costs 5X here in Japan.
I got a laugh out of the YouTube where the salesman asks the country singer what he thinks of DuraTex, and he said, "Well, it's durable, and has a texture." LoL!

haha yeah the videos are pretty strange.
Yep, there's a place that sells it here for about twice the US price but theres also an Aussie one called Rockhard that's quite cheap, but it seems they only list it in huge quantities and as I've only got two quads and headshells planned, I'm hoping they will sell me a smaller batch.

I would imagine 3~4 liters would be plenty, even with an extra-generous double coat, and a bit left for touchup later. I like the name Rockard, but it needs an apostrophe... Rock'Ard! (I know that's actually Cockney)
Hope they accomodate you.
FenderLover June 7th, 2012, 12:26 PM I have a 3U FX box that is Duratex'ed. I wish I could remember the vendor. It's a hard finish, and attractive. It covers the end grain nicely. Like any spray finish, I imagine that surface prep is the key to a job well done.
Keyser Soze June 7th, 2012, 11:13 PM How different is this stuff from the spray on vinyl automotive products?
