For a darker sound, Mallory150 would be fine, perhaps not everywhere, you'll have to test. canucklehead June 8th, 2012, 02:37 AM thank you Kleuk. Anyone else? What brand of caps are people using to recap their Blues Jrs? cheers swellsmd June 8th, 2012, 06:50 AM Google Billm Mods and read his advice. And buy his kit. PinewoodRo June 8th, 2012, 07:16 AM I may be telling you smoething you already know but I'd suggest getting 105 degrees rated caps, they'll last longer. Commodore 64 June 8th, 2012, 09:34 AM Here's what I would do if I were you: 1. Get a Cannibis Rex Speaker 2. Do the Twin Stack Mod: http://billmaudio.com/wp/?page_id=58 3. Do the Tone Stack Mod: http://home.comcast.net/~machrone/bjr/bjtone.htm So you are looking at soldering 2 caps, and jumper. See what you think of your Blues Jr then. You'll have more control with your knobs to dial in the sound you are looking for. OaklandA June 8th, 2012, 04:22 PM Here's what I would do if I were you: 1. Get a Cannibis Rex Speaker 2. This is great advice and you should try it before re-capping an amp. tele_pathic June 8th, 2012, 05:09 PM Paging billm...Seriously, you should ask this dude. Super helpful and pretty friendly. He got a website devoted to the BLues Jr. canucklehead June 8th, 2012, 11:56 PM "premium capacitors that give more solid bass–and mids" what are some premium caps?? thanx hepcatrevival June 14th, 2012, 12:20 AM Bill M recommends doubling the first filter cap. It's a 40 Microfarad if I remember. I recapped a student's 94 Blues Junior and it sounds much tighter with better bass after doubling the first filter. Adding another in parallel isn't too bad and is a cheap repair. Polypropylene caps are the clearest caps, polyester and polystyrene are close. Go with 600 volts. |
