Has anyone here owned/played these? I would like to know what your impression of these pups are because I really like the idea of them being single coil size. I'm thinking about putting one in the neck pos. on my tele but would like it to sound somewhat like a true humbucker. I did listen to the sound on the SD site but my computers speakers aren't that good so it's hard to get a good impression of the pickup.

Very dark and loud. Other than the size, they really don't share any characteristics with a Fender pickup.

Are they comparable to a SD mini-humbucker?

No. Its a HB as well , but voiced differently. The lil'59 does a good job of recreating the trad HB sound. The rails has a hot, more metal sound. The rail (bar) is also a factor as bars sound different than 6/12 poles or 6/12 magnets. Whether a single, micro HB, mini HB (Firebird), or full size HB the bar has sound quality it imparts..I got some when first introed and don't like them. They have a clacky non-musical attack w the wrong effects/amp.

I tried them, didn't like them, and replaced them with Duncan Vintage Stacks in both positions. Still sounds like a Tele, little to no hum.

I'm putting a Vintage stack in the bridge position, but I want a 'bucker for more heavy rhythm tones.

I've got one in the bridge position of my Tele. As mentioned before, very dark and high output. When I had one on one of my Strats I coil tapped it, and I thought it was pretty good single coil sound. I've never tried coil tapping the one on the Tele though, but I would expect similar results.

May I suggest this combination then. It has a Vintage Stack in the bridge and a Duncan mini Antiquity in the neck.

That looks good but I don't want to have to enlarge the neck pickup cavity or buy a custom pickguard, which is why the hot rails pups really attract me
