Musician's Resume

I'm going to be in a music video and the director is asking for my musical resume and a headshot (I've taken many shots to the head and probably don't need more). Does anybody have a musician's resume they care to share (or simply some pointers)?

Mostly you just need a bio, who you played with, things like that.

The headshot's a big deal. Needs to be 8 x 10, black and white, name, occupation and contact info printed on the bottom, and you need to have it done by someone who has done them before.

Good friend of mine lost a Rockettes audition over not having a proper headshot (she auditioned on a lark and had never heard of one before, being from Iowa).

Bio should be short, one page, don't be afraid to brag but lying's usually not the best idea.

Cool. I'm not auditioning. The band that recorded the song will be featured in the video. No one in the band has a headshot. I sent a picture instead of a headshot. I made a resume/bio and sent it in. Just curious who here had experience in this matter.

Format is important. Good old fashioned paper and photos are great, but consider having something downloadable, thumbdrive, disc, etc as backups just in case you're asked for them. Headshots are fine, but overall image is necessary too, so include a full length with instrument etc. Discography, no matter how small time. Gig list, no matter how remote. Bands, whatever the style. Courses, workshops, schools, camps, taught, taken, given, or attended. Education, songwriting, arranging, producing, engineering, etc. Multi-instrumentalist? Networks, associations, memberships?

Maybe there's something I'm not quite understanding here...

Are you in the band that's appearing in the video? And the video is then for your band's song?

Sounds like the director is working for you, not the other way around.

Or am I missing something?

One of my bandmates wrote a song for a movie being filmed here in town. The song features some local stuff so the movie producer hired a director to shoot a video for the song that we've already recorded in a studio. Who am I working for? I'm not really sure. I won't be getting paid nor will I be paying anyone. I'm doing my part. I've already submitted my resume and a picture. I'm not going out to have a headshot made at my expense. I'm only a semi-pro musician and don't aspire to much more than a few local gigs. So far I've donated time and plan to donate more time for the video.

I don't know if you are missing anything, but I hope I've explained the scenario a little bit more.

Sounds like a couple of things could be going on here.

1-they could be seeing if youse purty enough. If not they'll get somebody that is
2-they want to know about you in case somebody says "who dat?"
3-this guy keeps a book on people he works with in case he needs you again
4-this guy has a thing for you. In this case don't ask why he wants a headshot

The headshot/bio request is probably standard practice for the director, keeping photos on file of all the folks he's worked with over the years. Someday he'll be able to say, "I worked with BedspreadPicnic before he got famous on the TDPRI.

Obvious advice, don't lie.
