Because I have to wait on some parts and decisions for the R450 I finally started to design my own model.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-QCCFZNBS.jpg
I know there will be some controversy about the headstock shape...(I'm working on a 3x3 too)
And this will be the bass version
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-NRYTHLAH.jpg
But first... the guitar to work out the design-flaws and because I am curious how it will look IRL.

Thanks guys! @neo I'm a fan of backlund too but I think its more design than functionality, I'm aiming on coolness and comfort(balance, playability etc.)

Not sure why you'd expect controvery with that headstock. Geometry is nice, mostly straight shot from the pegs to the nut slots... When you talk about blending form and function, that's the kind of stuff I like to see.

Not a fan of tilted p90's but I can pretend I didn't see it :P I guess it makes sense for the design...

That's it! It has that look that says it was designed as the guitar of the future back in the 60's. Very nice!

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm a very serious traditionalist, but I really like this entire guitar. Very retro to me, well and thoughtfully designed. Another winner out of the Gun works!

EDIT: Skip the variation, too traditional  I like the original concept headstock better!

Love it .I would have reversed the oval headstock to keep the line following the cutaway angle or at least tried it out as mock up but its all a great design

I like the 3x3 headstock. Even though its very dano-ish. Love the overall look. Tilted neck pup fretboard, like the ventures you make is sexy too. Can't wait to see the final product.

Love the body shape but I really do like a 3+3 headstock. That shape would make a great 3+3 by the way just needs to be shorter!

Love the body shape. I like the six-in-line headstock, but it reminds me of the Vox headstocks from the sixties and I never really liked those guitars. I'd get over it.

The slanted P90 is not my thing.

Great design overall, very original; it's hard to do that nowadays. Every guitar shape already seems to have been tried before.

LarsOS
June 6th, 2012, 06:08 AM
I like the "variation" too. But I think it's more a completely different design than a variation, since the body shape is different too.

I especially like how the "variation" headstock answers the curves of the body.

Something tells me you've got a little bit of inspiration from the Rickenbacker 400x/4xx series too?

June 6th, 2012, 11:10 AM
I def prefer the original design the most. A great blend of influences, but very original. The variation looks too pedestrian in comparison and a bit too much like a Squier Venus. Another excellent design that I can't wait to see the finished product.

Other than a silver sparkle option, I like the surf green.

Hey Oigun,

Before, the green pickup covers had too much contrast and drew your eye away from the guitar as a whole. The white covers are an improvement but they too get a little lost in the pickguard as they don't have enough contrast. As you have shown you can fab anything, how about something like those old Barney Kessel "Kleenex Box" covers? Just a thought. :-)

That thing looks like it's going 600 miles an hour! Great job!

Same thing I was thinking; nice work, Oi! I came very close to doing a contrasting layer like that underneath my very first fretbord (it came out too thin), but instead I redid the whole thing... seeing your neck makes me think I should have gone with the contrast.

Congratulations. I'd go with chrome pickup covers, myself.

Don't go kitsch with added ray gun/Jetson's crap, that thing is not only retro , it's classy as well. I too like the oval 6 in a line headstock. I like that green . I might be stealing that pick guard shape too.

Dunkerhook
June 16th, 2012, 05:06 PM
Simply amazing. I love every detail. It would be cool to see one with the 3x3 headstock. Or maybe as a 12 string. And the George Jetson''s-Flying-Saucer-green is a great color. I'll bet there's a lot more color inspiration to be found in the Jetsons.

I agree with 61Fury. Gotta be careful. You don't want it to look like Tomorrowland threw up on the guitar.

The only thing I might consider is the diamond ice pearl pickguard material from Pickguard Heaven. But this might cross the Tomorrowland line mentioned above.

I'm out of the house a lot more in summer and away from the computer so I'm not able to follow threads as closely so I'm sorry I missed the finished product. I really like this guitar. My sister wants me to build her a guitar and she told me yesterday she wants it to be a surprise. This build has inspired me to come up with an origanal design for her.

PS--That playing isn't bad either.
