I dislike waiting on parts....

It always gets me into trouble when I have "idle time". For example, I was
working on my 'Orange Crush' LP;
http://i1039.photobucket.com/albums/a478/emoney65/OCD1.jpg
when I got to the point of needing tuners, p'ups etc., so what do I do?
I do what every red-blooded builder would do and while I was waiting for
the order to arrive, I started my "ES" build;
http://i1039.photobucket.com/albums/a478/emoney65/OCD2.jpg
Then, when I got to the point of need frets and other parts for it, I started
a semi-hollow, flattop Jr. build;
http://i1039.photobucket.com/albums/a478/emoney65/OCD3.jpg
And, since I need to make a truss rod for it, I went ahead and decided to
start my first Stratocaster build;
http://i1039.photobucket.com/albums/a478/emoney65/OCD4.jpg
1 piece Sipo and an Ambrosia neck (although I'm really worried about weight
on this one).

So, I'm still waiting on parts, but now instead of for one build, it's 4. I went
with Bezdez (sp?) on the advice of a lot of people right here that I've come to respect,
so technically, a lot of the blame for what my wife calls, "compulsive", can
rest squarely of some your shoulders, because we all know it takes a few
days for Canada shipments to get to Florida. And like I told her, I can quit
building any time I want to........I just don't want to:twisted:

I have the same problem with finishing, its the part of building I don't much care for so when my build gets to the point of needing a finish I usually just start another one. :lol:

I find nothing wrong with managing your compulsion in the most efficient way possible, which it looks like you're doing just that :razz:

BTW, that's a nice lineup you've got going there!

I hear you. These days I try to adhere to a strict "one guitar at a time" policy unless I'm building multiple ones of the same guitar. I am, of course, in violation of this policy at the present. I wasn't done with the Tele hanging in the background when the build challenge started. I'm getting them both ready for paint as I type.

Despite my current lapsed condition it has been a good rule of thumb for me. Much more productive.

I'm sure you know, but denial is one of the early signs of addiction. :lol:

You seem to be managing very well, though. I'm lovin' the Orange Crush.

It could be worse. I do this too, but I also have another problem. I start thinking about future projects and then start buying the hardware long before I can start building. This is especially an issue when something comes up on eBay and I know that when I actually need the piece I won't be able to find it used/cheap - so I just buy it.

same here, but with buying lumber

I made a spreadsheet with all the parts & lumber I need to build a guitar. Sourced all the best prices. It keeps a total of the costs. Then, after 2 or 3 ideas for future builds, I added a sheet for each one. Then I thought I'd make a master inventory sheet so I can just cut & paste to my build sheets. Then I started looking at the quantity discounts for the parts. The problem is - if I have an extra switch tip I plan another build!

For the total of my inventory in stock right now I could have bought a really nice guitar. Somebody stop me!

LOL ! So very, very true. With me, it's kind of like the circular reference in a spreadsheet, only with tools. Well, the cheap make-do tool could have been better on that last build, so I'll just order up a Fretzo-matic from Stew Mac and some Silkmore 1000 Fretwire Premium from LMI, and so on and so forth. And next thing I know, hell, I've bought all this great stuff to build, I've just got to build something with it. But wait, I'll have to cobble up a BumHucker pickup route pattern, cuz this one's gonna be a split-coil, if I like it, I'll buy that Template-All from All parts for my next build, and then. . . Stop me, indeed !

But damme, it's fun.

Plus, we all know that fretwire gets cheaper as you order more. Then, if you have all that
extra fretwire just laying around.......................

That's kind of like your wife telling you how much she just saved at that sale 'cause it was 50% off. Right honey, just think how much you could have saved if you had maxed out the credit card!

Don't even get me started on tools. I just bought a planer and a Dremel plunge router base and I'm looking at the Porter-Cable router from Woodcraft because it comes with a free dovetail jig. I hate routers! And I've never had a need for a dovetail jig, although..............

PS - My binding came in today.........but it's not for this build. It's for the next one or the one after that :shock:

Finally got my stuff!!! Woohoo!!!! And I must say, I'm glad you guys turned me onto
Bezdez from Ebay. Not only am I pleased with the parts, he actually rebated me back
some money on shipping that both myself and his online shipping calculator missed because
it was a combined order. Quite frankly, I would have never caught it and still been happy.
It's nice to know there are still fair and honest sellers out there, isn't it. Nothing better
than seeing that box sitting on the table tonight. So, in celebration, I went ahead and
installed some frets and binding on my ES build's fretboard;

Like my fancy clamps? Those are custom made from a very secret, Emoney-original plan
so don't ask how they work, or I might have to kill you.

When I get the neck set and the body bound, I'll start a thread. I just don't want to get
one going that might take me forever, as an example, this thing's actually been in the
works since February. Sheesh.

Hey E, your workbench looks like mine. I spend more time moving stuff than I do building. Move it off the bench to the ROSS. Oh now I want to sand something. Move it to the table saw. Move it to the bench.........

I have made many purchases from Bezdez myself and he always gives a shipping rebate. I highly recommend him.

Don't tell me about waiting on parts. Do you know how hard it is to get parts for a Mini Cooper in Western KS? Especially the plastic crap we broke taking the engine out...

Looks like those new-fangled infinitely adjustable elasto-latexic pressure devices to me. Please don't kill me if I'm right, I'm only guessing.

That neck is great looking--beautiful work!

I'm going to have to check out Bezdez.

I tend to plan the build, order the parts (because it takes ages to get to Perth) buy the wood locally, and make a start. Then, as work progresses I change my mind and order other parts. So I end up with enough to build a 10 pickup, 2 bridge multiple tuner Tele! I mean, just look at how many pieces of wood are on the top of my Harlequaster (73 and counting.....).
