I have a 59 Bassman LTD on the way and was looking for a reverb pedal. I can't afford the tank unit. What are your thoughts on the Boss 63 Reverb pedals? Tried to search the forum, but no luck. Thanks,Richard

Thanks Alex W June 3rd, 2012, 09:50 PM I have a Boss FRV-1 '63 Fender Reverb pedal. I have been happy with it.It probably doesn't literally sound as good as the stand-alone reverb unit, but in practical terms it has the three controls (mix, dwell, tone) and that allows me to get just the right amount of reverb that I want. Basically it satisfied my reverb GAS and I haven't had any thoughts of buying the stand-alone reverb unit since I got it. birv2 June 3rd, 2012, 11:58 PM I use mine with my Pro Jr. It sounds very good but seems to add some hiss that other pedals don't. Anybody else have this issue? Aside from that, it's a very versatile pedal. benderb9 June 4th, 2012, 07:46 AM It sounds perfect in front of my new Excelsior, like frosting on a cake. It is uncanny how much it interacts and sounds just like the real deal without the bulk or weight. Modeling has come a loooong way. I don't usually care for reverb but I do like this pedal. Gold Rush June 4th, 2012, 11:43 AM I've been using one for a year now, and like it fine. Took me a while to really appreciate it though, as I was setting the Tone knob way too high. If you get one, keep the Tone set low (especially for single-coils or using bridge p/up), and don't go overboard with the Mixer knob either. It's a good option until you can get a real tank (if needed). Haven't noticed any tone-suck/signal-loss either. I'm getting a Peavey Valverb, but will still keep the FRV-1 because it does do a good job overall. KC June 4th, 2012, 11:52 AM I've owned a tank before & now own the FRV-1 and I'd much rather have the pedal -- smaller, cheaper, less stuff to carry. And at the levels I use it at, a little reverb always on, it sounds exactly the same. If you turn up the mix to where you can really hear it, maybe there's a little difference. Maybe. But the way I use it, no difference at all. At practice the other night, I used the pedal instead of the spring in my Blues Junior & the pedal sounded better. |
