Ice Blue Metallic over Sonic Blue question

In my first attempt at spraying a color rather than working with dye, I ultimately found myself making a ton of rookie technical mistakes. the end result was a color coat that was thicker than I wanted, with a couple of significant runs. I tried to sand them back a bit with some 600, got them looking like I wanted, only to realize I went through the color on one of the edges. And of course, I ran out of Sonic Blue along the way, with no opportunity for a touch up.

So in the middle of reordering some more, I realized that I really wanted the guitar to be Ice Blue Metallic. I have a couple of cans now on the way.

In the meantime, should I be thinking about sanding off the Sonic Blue? Should I be applying some kind of primer?

You should be practicing your technique on some scrap.

I like somic blue better... If you are having issues putting a solid color on too thick then metallic paint like Ice Blue is going to be an even bigger mess.. It is more difficult to get a nice even metallic coat with no runs or sags. Runs are from too much paint being applied too quickly or sometimes if the temperature is too cold or too hot.

Guys,

Thanks for the replies. My paint went on too thick because I kept making stupid rookie mistakes like having something drip onto the body, and reflexively trying to wipe it off, rather than sanding it when it dried. That and my traditional habit of trying to force too many steps into the limited time I have available.

That said, sand back, or no?
