Obvious answer is go try one, which I'm going to do, but asking for opinions anyhow.
My main question is how are they as an all around guitar ? Decent for strumming, flat-picking, and finger-style ?
Would the maple or rosewood version be best for strumming ?

I'm guessing the rosewood would be a better strummer. Be sure to try the Blackwood if they have one. Maple might be better suited to fingerpicking, it tends to be bright.
Of course, all this speculation is just that, the guitars and your ear will be the determining factor.

Thanks for posting that demo stephent2.
Gives me a good idea what to expect from the different versions. A local shop has the maple and rosewood..... I'm off to check them out.

With the laminate back and sides they all sound the same. There is a difference in sound between the spruce and mahogany tops.

if you couldn't hear a difference if the youtube video I posted above, then to you, they all sound the same.

The GS Min is a pretty unique little guitar - I have the orig version w/lam. sapele body & spruce top and have been "rediscovering" it lately. Pretty good for all around use, although I mostly strum and flatpick. Others have fingerpicked with it and sounded pretty good too. The GS Mini has a pretty big sound and good tone for such a small guitar IMO.
I tried a mahoghany top Mini just recently and was pretty impressed by the diff. look etc., but decided my spruce topped one was a bit better for what I do than that particular one.
No shops in my area have any of the new variants, but I'd love to check them out. I suspect that with laminated bodies constructed from plies of all the same type of wood, there would be some tonal variation between different types but not as much as if they were solid woods. They do sound slightly different in the videos I've viewed.
Obviously, it 's best to try them all if you can, and pick the one you like best if you can. Will be interested in what you decide.
