Finish question

Hey. I have a guitar had a very semi pro paint job. It had bubble wrap imprints on the finish from shipping. I buffed most of it out but it needs something. I don't want to remove too much finish. The finish was almost gummy when I got it. It's been several months and it seems better. But what would you recommend I do to give it more of a protective shine? Wax? Just don't want to take too much off and fade the paint job in the process. Don't want to take it apart either. Thanks in advance! Pete
