Just removed a Lollar Special T Neck pickup from my guitar...

It has a 4 way switch installed.

And noticed that it had 3 wires connected to it (1 in cream coloured lace and the other 2 in black lace.) One black wire was connected to the volume pot and the 2 others were connected to opposite ends of the 4 way switch. Is this normal? i always thought it would only have 2 wires. Or was one added on?

The reason I am asking is because I`d like to install a Charlie Christian at the neck but it only comes with 2 wires. Would it still work if I connect it to the 4 way switch?

Thanks a lot!

PS- I`m a total newb at this!

The wire that is connected to the back of the volume pot is the ground, and it grounds the shield. If it didn't have that, when you chose the series position on your switch the pickup itself would be grounded.

I don't believe the chassis of the CC pickup is grounded (this is a Lollar pickup, right?), so you should be able to connect the wires to your switch and not worry about the ground.

I`m looking at the vintage vibes CC. Do you know if the ground wire is stock to the lollar pickup?

The vintage vibes site says they have a grounded shield, so you will need a separate ground for that shield and for the - wire of the coil.

The Lollar Tele pickups don't come with a 3rd ground wire, but you can order them with one installed. If the job was neat it would be impossible to tell if the pickup was ordered like that or if someone did it later.

Thanks for the info! So grounding a pickup is not completely necessary is it?

I think I have identified the ground...I can see, upon closer inspection, that one wire is soldered right in the middle of the 2 holes that the other wires pass through to attach to the hair-thin-wires on the other side (woah, hopefully that doesn`t confuse you).

So, if i remove this black wire, everything should still work fine correct? I ask because I plan to have this pickup in original form in order to sell. thx!
