TC Flashback Owners : No Detents bother you ?

Got my TC Flashback today delivered by the UPS gorillas and while I love all the sounds so far (haven't dug into everything) I don't like the delay selector switch w/ no detents.

Thing just sweeps around.

What is the thinking behind that ?

I have a TC Hall of Fame also, and that thing has very subtle detents on the reverb selector knob - but at least they're there.

Mine has a slight catch when changing delays, but I don't have the Flashback, I have the Alter Ego. Same basic pedal, but 2 different delays. Maybe they changed the pot they used for that run?

I have firm detents on my flashback...
no doubt where you stop?

Mine has soft detents that are easy to overshoot, but they're definitely there. However, one I tried in a shop seemed to have the problem that you're describing.

I've sent TC Electronics a message about it so we'll see.

I have no doubt that who I bought it from (ProAudioStar) would take it back if need be.

I have the same issue with 2 of my pedals...not TC pedals, but I assume this is a common thing.

TC emailed back almost immediately and said - "nope - that's not correct" and said to contact ProAudioStar.

They emailed back almost immediately and said "Send it back and we'll make the exchange."

This story could have a happy ending.

Thing is, it works perfectly as is but live I need those detents. Our singer starts before everyone else is ready as it is now...

I have similar problems.. When I got it on "looper" and I play around with the loop button, theres not much resistance on the button, so it might pop out of the looper detent when I'm bumping it slightly with my shoe. Doesnt happen often, but I can imagine its a nightmare when playing live! I just use the looper for chord progress practise, and the delays for.. meditiation, more or less :P :P It's nice with a little tail of delay to fatten up the sound. Good luck!

(PS: Thinking about it, I bought the pedal mostly for the looper, but I enjoy experimenting with some delay for that unique sound.)

(PS#2) Has anyone tried the soundprint thing? Downloading artist tones?

Well - it's actually in the hands of UPS as we speak, w/ a pre-printed/paid shipping label and the dude at Pro Audio Star return dept said he'd make sure the new one had detents.

It's one of those J & R / B & H Brooklyn mega-dealers but so far they kick ass !

I actually just received a pedal from ProStarAudio, oddly enough. Been sick so haven't tried it yet but they took my lower than list "Make Offer" for a Modtone Mini Fuzzer.

I have a Flashback and a HoF. Both have soft detents. I'm a basement player so it doesn't matter much; but if I were using it on gigs I would have bought something with footswitchable presets, e.g. a Strymon Timeline.

Maybe you could mount the delay elevated somehow, like on a board on top of a music stand, so that you could reach it easily to make changes.

dconeill, it's obvious you're a basement player :D

Putting pedals on a stand during gigs? Not done :D How are you going to turn the pedal on and off when you're playing in the middle of a song? :D

Yes, I am a basement player. But in my younger days I gigged some, and I'm aware of why it might be suboptimal in some respects to put some of your pedals on a stand.

However, if it's a pedal that you have to fiddle with, it would take less time and be less intrusive to have it on a stand, and activate it with your hand, than it would be to have to bend down or kneel down to fiddle with it.

I still maintain that if you have to change the settings often, by hand, then it's the wrong pedal. If you have to change settings often, you would be far better served by a pedal with footswitchable presets.

And as far as not putting pedals on stands, Bill Frisell does it frequently - or at least he puts them on a chair or on top of an amp, and then adjusts them as he needs to.

Quite a few well known, touring guitarists have pedals on a stand. I saw Drew Shirley from Switchfoot had a setup with 2 boards. 1 for his feet, 1 with delays and things for his hands so he can make on the fly adjustments.

I've seen several "opening act" level bands at some House of Blues shows where they do it also.
