A few days ago I bought a used Microcube for a couple of intimate al fresco gigs coming up (need a battery amp). The amp is fine except for the speaker.I connected up a Jensen 10 inch speaker to the amp and it worked fine but I would like to replace the existing speaker with a "drop in" 5 inch unit.Has anyone any experience of a SICA 5" 50 watt driver Z002320C?
I can get the speaker for about £25 including postage.
Has anybody done this mod and is there a significant inprovement in the bass response which is non existant at present?
Thanks
Ken

I've just got an Alpine SPS-170A 6.5 inch car speaker of Ebay.
I'm not expecting a great lot but when the mod is finished I hope it will be better than the stock speaker.
I will post again then and give details so if anyone else is thinking of changing out the speaker it may be of some help.

I have a micro cube and because of the poor bass response I have decided to either replace the speaker or sell it and get a Pathfinder. How does the Alpine speaker sound?

The Alpine speaker seems to have been lost in the post but I got a "visaton" BG17 6 1/2 inch 8ohm off Ebay.It only cost £10 including postage.Great improvment and much louder but still bass response a bit weak so whilst I was in there I installed an extension speaker jack socket.I then built a 15 inch square pine cabinet and fitted a HH 10 inch from my Laney LC15R.What a revelation that little amp is with the ext cab plugged in.
You might ask what was the point of using a small amp then plugging in to a much larger cabinet.
I only got the amp to use on an intimate al fresco gig last month with no power supply but now I find I really like the sounds that come out of it with the Tele and I can still use it with batteries and the ext cab.

Thanks Artisan I decided to keep it simple and got a Pathfinder... WOW! Will still keep the micro cube to take for my lessons but the Pathfinder is just brilliant!
