Guns n' Roses 2012: old vs new. You decide.WaylonFan76 May 31st, 2012, 11:31 AM 8YHMAzUaFE4 79CjtaMLUUw  Texas Special May 31st, 2012, 01:01 PM I'll tell you tomorrow. Seeing them tonight and was fortunate enough to see them in their prime. Omiewise65 May 31st, 2012, 02:09 PM Saw them in Stuttgart , Germany , on father's day 1993 and they were amazing . WaylonFan76 May 31st, 2012, 02:47 PM If you watch the first video with Axl and his hired guns ( pun intended ) it's a travesty, IMO. He's even a parody of his former self. They just sound really bad to me. On the other hand, I love seeing Steven Adler perform with his old buddies again. The look on his face just says it all. That Kennedy guy does not impress me much, I think they could've gotten somebody better, but, hey, that's just my own opinion. rave May 31st, 2012, 03:57 PM I saw them open for the Stones in 1989 and was blown away. Like the Stones the chemistry the original band had makes the sum greater than the parts. As far as today, I would rather hear Slash with a different singer than Axl with a different guitarist. The Knockin on Heavens door is hard to listen to. Part of the issue for me is too many guitarists which don't seem to mesh well. Leep Dog May 31st, 2012, 04:06 PM I saw them in 1992. The Smashing Pumpkins opened for them. Guns came on about 3 hours late, which was a real downer but we expected it. They rocked the house though and Slash was amazing. It was also the loudest concert I've ever been to. It was crazy loud. speedmusic May 31st, 2012, 04:42 PM I saw them several times, one time Skid Row opened the show, i was impressed by S. Bach performance and quality of singing, he made Axl sounds like a screaming pig in the slaughter house. Wouldn't it be a great thing if the Appetite line.up minus Axl will hire Sebastian Bach? walleyeman May 31st, 2012, 04:43 PM Axl 2012 = the sound of cat vomiting Texas Special June 1st, 2012, 11:36 AM I'll tell you tomorrow. Seeing them tonight and was fortunate enough to see them in their prime. And the answer is............. poor! WaylonFan76 June 1st, 2012, 11:52 AM That's not even the same band... boldaslove71 June 1st, 2012, 12:05 PM I just saw Slash and Miles Kennedy in Madison, WI a few weeks ago. The show did not disappoint. The show started on time. I think Miles did a good job approximating Axl. More important, he seemed to understand his role and genuinely looked like he was having a good time. Too bad Axl is such an Ax hole. Scantron08 June 1st, 2012, 12:08 PM Neither of those videos are "old" GNR. Leep Dog June 1st, 2012, 12:41 PM Man, I cannot believe how freaking pathetic Axl sounded. That's criminal that he's using the Guns N Roses name. You know what though, the Miles Kennedy version ain't half bad. If anything, they should all join up and tour doing Guns songs. I don't really care for his voice, but compared to Axl nowadays, my God that was so much better. EricS76 June 1st, 2012, 12:57 PM How sad. That shouldn't even be allowed to be called Guns & Roses... guitarzan13 June 1st, 2012, 01:06 PM And the answer is............. poor! I'm not surprised..... tcadam June 1st, 2012, 01:52 PM Rose's current guitar player should remember that what you don't play is as important as what you do. wicked4mil430 June 1st, 2012, 01:55 PM Old original line up for sure Blazer June 1st, 2012, 03:40 PM g_enNmzWn6Y THIS is old Guns N Roses. THIS is the band who's "Appetite for destruction" album became my tutoring aid on how to play rock. WaylonFan76 June 1st, 2012, 04:31 PM I meant old lineup vs new. Old being Steven, Slash, Duff. Leep Dog June 1st, 2012, 04:38 PM By the way, what happened to Steven Adler's face? He looks so different and very strange. WaylonFan76 June 1st, 2012, 04:41 PM By the way, what happened to Steven Adler's face? He looks so different and very strange. Illegal substances, I would guess... Probably medical problems induced by using. WaylonFan76 June 1st, 2012, 04:41 PM Take a look at this: Just posted by Guitar World: http://www.guitarworld.com/guns-n-roses-uk-fans-no-slash-t-shirts-allowed-gnr-shows :shock::shock: 6stringelectric June 1st, 2012, 04:56 PM The first video sounded pretty bad to me. To be fair, maybe it was just an "off" performance, and that certainly is not the sort of song I would associate with Guns N Roses anyway. The second video, minus Axl, is far and away better. Miles may not sound exactly like Axl used to - but he certainly sounds much better than Axl does now, and the rest of the band has lost nothing. czgibson June 1st, 2012, 05:34 PM g_enNmzWn6Y THIS is old Guns N Roses. THIS is the band who's "Appetite for destruction" album became my tutoring aid on how to play rock. Such a shame. They released one world class rock and roll album and nothing they've released since has come close to it. Axl's current band is not Guns 'n' Roses and everyone knows it. speedy mcfeely June 1st, 2012, 05:50 PM I meant old lineup vs new. Old being Steven, Slash, Duff. What about Izzy? He's a beast! Zillinois June 1st, 2012, 06:29 PM By the way, what happened to Steven Adler's face? He looks so different and very strange. a drug induced stroke several yaers ago. Skully June 3rd, 2012, 06:48 PM I saw them open for the Stones in 1989 and was blown away. I too saw one of the 1989 Stones/GNR shows at the L.A. Coliseum. It was the infamous "too many people in the band are dancing with Mr. Brownstone" night. Not GNR at their best. Before the show, a lot of people were looking for GNR to blow the Stones off the stage. Didn't happen. Post Toastie June 3rd, 2012, 10:35 PM I saw GnR open for Aerosmith in 89 or 90 at The Pacific in Costa Mesa. They were Awesome. Skully June 4th, 2012, 12:19 AM I saw GnR open for Aerosmith in 89 or 90 at The Pacific in Costa Mesa. They were Awesome. I was at that show, too. But traffic was backed up on the 405, so I missed GNR and only saw Aerosmith. Commodore 64 June 4th, 2012, 09:23 AM Myles Kennedy sounds pretty good. Different than Axhole, but Myles is a pretty accomplished singer in his own right, can't expect him to try an emulate Axhole verbatim. I think he does a pretty good job. They seemed to enjoy that performance. That makes me enjoy the performance. I don't know why, but I'd seem to enjoy it when a band seems to be enjoying themselves (like Iron Maiden does these days.). czook June 4th, 2012, 09:42 AM I'm too old to think they even compared favorably to those who came before them. To me they are just a hair band with a few catchy tunes. Commodore 64 June 4th, 2012, 11:13 AM To me they are just a hair band with a few catchy tunes. You say that like it's a bad thing. mudshark June 4th, 2012, 11:18 AM Axl Rose sounded like Edith Bunker then, and he sounds like Edith Bunker now. |
