Finished my first Telecaster-style build

Hi Folks,

When I was new here, I mentioned I had some Telecaster builds in mind, and I was asked to share photos of them as I completed them. Here's the first one. It's a Blacktop Tele-inspired build that I sprayed in Citrus Green, and added black & crème tuxedo plastics, including a crème Strat tip for the selector. I made the 2-piece body from old-growth Mahogany and cut it with a vintage profile. The pickups are 4-conductor Gibson humbuckers with 500k pots and a mini switch to split them. The knobs are Fender amp knobs.

Nice looking Tele, LOVE the color!!

Thank you! It is an unusual color, but I thought it would look great with a black guard Telecaster. I love old muscle cars and I wanted it to have that look.

Strange color combos, but it looks great together

Thanks! It is a weird color scheme, but I wanted it to look like something made in the early 70s.

fantastic color!!

(I would have kept plastics all black though or chrome pu ring)

Excellent colour! Bet it growls with the two 'buckers too?

I'm with helectrix on the all-black plastics, but given your '70s inspiration point, I think you've nailed it.

wow, man, this guitar is a show of good taste!
never thought I'd say this about a green guitar but this one looks absolutely perfect

...well, just a tiny issue! I love the cream selector's tip color, but the idea of a strat turns me off

That is a really unique look. I could never
have thought of combining those ingredients,
but I really like the outcome.

The gap between the bridge pickup and the
pickguard is a minor drawback. Have you
considered replacing it with your own custom
pickguard? Or maybe you just like it that way.

Anyway, great job!

Thank you! Yes, I wish I had a blacktop guard for it, so the gap would be gone. But I only have the regular telecaster guard. I looked for a blacktop guard on the web and couldn't find one. I'm ok with it for now.

Thank you! I knew this guitar would throw people off a bit with its strange combination of features. I had considered a barrel switch tip, but I really like the sleek look and feel of the strat tip. Thank you for all your kind compliments.

Thanks guys! I was hoping others might see the attraction I felt to this shade of green. And yes, the 'buckers rock! I know there are TDPRI folks who would object to humbuckers on a tele, but I couldn't help myself. My next telecaster will have single coils as nature intended.

In some of the photos, in the different light, it's got almost a gold top cast to the color, which is in keeping with the LP solid-body humbucker influence its got. Like to hear some audio clips. Have always wondered about split buckers on a Tele, how much different when in single coil mode, they sound from standard Teles. This makes it even more tempting to start thinking about building one. And what's not to like? This is a well-conceived, thoughtful design, and You've combined some of the greatest elements in electric-guitardom--Gibson humbuckers, Fender Amp Knobs, Strat switch knob, Tele body and neck. I also like the reversed selector switch position.

Great job, Plank, thanks for sharing the photos.

Yea mon, great combination of elements in this axe!

Green is gold. Your color choice rocks. Anyone says different, bust 'em in the chops with some growl from the humbuckers.

+1 to getting an audio/video clip up so's we can hear that thang

Beautiful. And I live the color combos. Also, I'm usually not a fan of amp knobs on guitars, but I think I works here,

As I have said in the past you can never have too may green guitars. I like the look, and I know exactly what you mean when you say you are looking for that 70's muscle car look. I think that color nailed it. I kind of feel for a muscle car vibe you could have gone all chrome.
