What P90 would work as a middle P90?

Hi,

I am considering sticking a P90 in the middle position of one of two guitars that I have in the works. Regardless of which one, I am curious what I should place in the middle position since anything stock would be for a Neck or Bridge position. What's the rule of thumb? Of course I could have one of the many custom winders cook me something perfect for a middle position, but if I buy a Duncan or something stock from a store, would a Bridge or Neck version be best for the middle.

I can't seem to get my head around this for some reason...had too much fun over the long weekend I guess

Thanks!

I prefer a neck pickup for the middle position of a guitar - that way, with a 5 way switch, you get a beefed up Strat config. A Duncan Vintage P-90 should do the trick.

Contact Jon Moore (Tone for Days).
Very helpful and very reasonably priced.

If you want the sound of middle pickup in 3rd position of 5 way switch, go with the bridge version. Generally speaking, neck version in middle position would have weaker sound than the neck pickup. If it's me, I don't care with the sound of middle pickup in 3rd position so there's no matter for me if it's bridge or neck version. I had 3 P90 guitar. The 3rd position was for bridge-neck combination. I set the middle pickup lower than the bridge and neck pickup so it didn't interfere with my picking/strumming. And the lower the better for 2nd and 4th position, IME.
