I'm replacing the effed up pu switch on my tele with another standard 3-way. I seem to recall more than a few recommendations for a "fifties" wiring scheme. I did a fair amount of searching and of course cannot fine any reference to it now. Anyone have a link to a wiring diagram of this circuit? Thanks!

Seymour Duncan website would have one. I'd find a link, but it would take you just as long:P

The wire from the vol to the tone pot comes off the center lug instead of whatever lug its on now. Presto changeo

that's Gibson 50's wiring (Fezz Parka)

Really know what you're getting yourself into, actually most DON'T like it.

Thank you for the replies. Actually, it was the Fezz Parka Tele tone mod info that I was looking for. I just could not remember what it was called. The way I asked was a bit of a red herring. With your help I did get it figured out in spite of myself... Now, where did I put that soldering gun?

You may not like it, it reduces the volume as you turn the tone knob down
It helps when the volume is low to 'brighten' it, but you're better off with a treble bleed mod instead.

Tone works same as standard wiring when volume is full up, but acts as volume control when vol is at 50% and tone is rolled way back, see my post in another thread w link

Not that I disagree (except that I hate the treble bleed mod), but to understand the effect, think of how the tone gets a little dull just by reducing the volume knob. This is really apparent if you have a high gain amp setup and you're cleaning it up by rolling back the volume knob. If you do that enough, and you notice that things are a little dull when you roll back the volume knob, then the 50's wiring will change that. It keeps things bright as you roll back the volume knob. It's a good idea if you ride the volume knob alot. the treble bleed mod is not a good way to combat that situation IMHO.
However, if you tend to roll the tone knob back, then you'll notice that the 50
s mod has an effect of losing volume as you turn the tone knob. They become more interactive.
I believe the 50's mod is a feature more useful for humbuckers that are slamming the amp into distortion. The only difference is whether the tone control is coming off the first or second lug of the volume control (before or after the voltage divider).
