AndyLowry May 29th, 2012, 06:24 PM Thanks to the mentions by TDPRI Members of Excellent Taste, I've lately been made aware of Tab Benoit and Carolyn Wonderland, for which I'm grateful. Not knowing of their works makes me feel like an ignorant buffoon, so here's your chance to make me feel even sillier! Any suggestions for other current blues performers? They don't necessarily have to be playing Telecasters, although that's always a plus.
No Klezmer please, that would be a different thread.

E5RSY May 29th, 2012, 07:36 PM Sadly no longer with us. In my opinion, no other "contemporary" artist could touch him...authenticity, skill, showmanship. He was the whole package.

I like Alvin Youngblood Hart, Snooks Eaglin (RIP) and i think Andres Osborne has the gift.
Axis29 May 29th, 2012, 08:31 PM What do we consider contemporary? I'll throw out a few I think of as current...
We cover an Anna Popovic tune in our regular set.
Steve Freund is one I like and need to listen to some more.
Keb Mo, he's been at it a number of years now, but is currently putting out new stuff.
Hollywood Fats? Monster player who we lost much too soon.
One of my favorite bands is the Nighthawks. They've been around since the 70's but just put out a couple of good albums.
Diunna Greanleaf, one I just recently discovered.
Those are the first ones popping into my head while typing away on my phone... Be interesting to see who I discover as this thread grows!
AndyLowry May 29th, 2012, 10:14 PM Ooops... looks like I posted in the wrong forum section. Thanks to whoever corrected that for me.
Geeez, I don't know any of these people. Keep 'em comin', and thanks to everyone for the input thus far!
Lowbassnotes May 29th, 2012, 10:31 PM Up and coming young bluesman is Ty Curtis, he took 2nd in the international blues challenge a few years back. He smokes IMO.
JohnK24 May 29th, 2012, 10:41 PM Kirk Fletcher and Josh Smith come to mind...two killer LA based blues hot dogs that can play the **** out of teles. Susan Tedeschi is an amazing blues singer/guitarist who knocks me out all the time (check her out with hubby Derek Trucks...Tedeschi Trucks Band). The previously mentioned Matt Schofield and Tab Benoit round out my favorite current modern blues players. Although as posted above, NO ONE can top what Sean Costello did in his short career.

Cash Box Kings do that old 50's Chess sound well.

Like him or not, Joe Bonamassa does play the blues and he does it extremely well. He can sing the blues too. Does he have the soul of some of the blues greats? Remains to be seen.
There is no denying his talent, blues or otherwise.

94bamf May 30th, 2012, 08:46 PM I agree about Michael Burks, very sad that he passed away. I did read that he had just finished recording a new album shortly before his death, so we at least have that to look forward to..
