Sperzel Sound Lok Tuners

Just received a set of Sperzel Sound Lok tuners I ordered direct from Sperzel in Cleveland, Oh. Planning on using them on a parts Esquire I'm putting together with all 'high end' components.
Not so sure now that I've seen them in person. Here's the issue. The idea is that they look like vintage style slotted post tuners but lock the string with a sort of cam action. My concern is that the hole barely fits a .052 E string and might be difficult to remove when the time comes, especially in a hurry on stage. Secondly the hole is drilled in the side of the post, not in the top center of the slot like the vintage [original non-locking style]. Not a an issue in it's self, but the holes are a bit ragged on the edges as they come out at an angle,
maybe 60 degree to the post. A little round filing is in order.
I'm not shure I want to drill my expensive custom made neck-headstock for the allinement holes without more confidence in the preformance of this product.
Has anyone had any expierence with this tuner ???:?::?:

Hey. First post here. Just thought I'd chime in on this. I am a big supporter of bob's and have been for a long time. I have the sound-lok tuners on my Warmoth 52 hotrod. They are superb and look awesome. I have Sperzel lockers on just about every electric I own.

I play elevens on that guitar but if you can get the string in there I'm sure you can get it out. The string actually goes all the way through the tuner and out the back of the headstock. If you are worried about a string breaking at the tuning peg then leave a little extra hanging out the back when you cut off the excess. That way you can pull it out the back with some pliers if need be. I have never broken a string at the tuning peg with these though.

Thanks for your input, after thinking about it the are going on the guitar. After studying these the only criticisum I have is the randomness of where the string hole comes out the post. They should not come out right in line with the slot if you are supposed to wrap the string through the slot. Worst case, I switch to sperzels with the knob on the back. I will review latter

Be aware that these "lock" by a friction fit, and seem (by my experience) to require a hex-type string to properly lock in place.

Some strings use actual round steel strings, and can easily slip through if wound on the pegs per the instructions.

I have never had a problem with this happening.

The placing of the hole is to aid in the "friction locking" action(what ever you want to call it). The hole doesn't go straight through the tuning peg.

Thanks Favaguitars and donh. I need to add one thing here, I love sperzel products. This one is just new to me so I was looking for input from Forum members. It is a really ingeinious design ! Open back, vintage look AND lock WOW.I will use it and report back. If it doesn't suit me I will replace with another type Sperzel Tunner

Sorry for reviving this old thread but, burtwangcaster, how did you get on with the tuners? :)
