Hello!! My band is going from a five piece to a four piece classic rock/variety band as our lead player just quit. I play some lead but I am a vocalist/rhythm player mostly. I have been promoted to lead player by default, but I need to learn some complex solo work in a hurry. Hotel California, Call me the breeze, Comfortably numb, Guitars Cadillacs, Hot Rod Lincoln, Ramblin Man, and other great stuff. I do not learn well thru Tab and Audio lessons. I need video with an instructor. Can anybody recommend a website that can help me learn these classics (and others) in kind of a hurry? Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

rg,

I don't know where to direct you to for video lessons, but if I were in your shoes, here's how I would approach it.

I'm not sure how far off you are of playing these parts, but it sounds like you have a bulk of material to learn in a short period of time (I'm guessing) I would learn how to 'get through' everything first, then go back and refine it bit by bit.

Learn intros and signature licks first, and figure out something to play for the leads that fits in your ability level and sounds good. It doesnt have to be the solo from the recording, just try to get a similar tone and map out your solo. Of course, grab anything from the recording that you can, or ' in the style of' but otherwise, just make it functional. A simple solo that flows is better than one that's over your head that crashes and burns. Solos dont need to be feats of virtuosity. Again, just make it functional.

Once you get things up and running, you will have some breathing room to go back and learn the solos. Chances are, you will be a better player for it in the end as well.

I will be glad to help if I can, in terms of pointing you in the right direction of what approaches and scales I would choose on these tunes. I'm certain the Tele Brethren would oblige as well.

Keep us posted. Good Luck!!

Youtube. Seriously. Do a search on nearly any song name followed by "lesson", and chances are someone has done it.

I know you don't work well with just tabs but ibdo have an accurate tab of guit caddies in my website. Go to my page in the signature then click on transcriptions.

I'm also happy to make videos of songs you need help on so get in touch over email or fb or something and we can go from there if you need additional help.

You tube is a great resource for this stuff though for sure. Tons of good stuff. Just make sure they're actually good videos or reputable.

As someone else has pointed out - you'll drive yourself mad trying you learn all those solos note perfect. Especially if they are above your skill level.

Simplify it - most of the audience won't notice, as long as it sounds good you can't lose.

Good luck!
