A_D_B May 28th, 2012, 04:04 PM Hi guys, greetings from Brazil!
Problem: I have a tele MIM with SD Little '59 (ST59-1b) on the bridge and a Vintage Rhythm Stack (STK-T1n) on the neck. Most of time I use full humbucker on the bridge (althought I can split the bobine), but when I use the neck pickup, there is a big difference in terms of volume.
IMHO, I must try to use a humbucker on the neck. Am I right? I'm not quite sure about that.
If the use of a humbucker on the neck is a good solution, who would be a good match for the SD Lil 59?
Important: I really love the tone of Vintage Rhythm Stack (STK-T1n).
Thanks,
Andre Berquo

A_D_B May 29th, 2012, 03:35 PM Thanks for the answer. I really don't remember about Texas Special. In this case, the volume's problem should be resolved?
Glen 1981 May 29th, 2012, 03:46 PM You could go for a full sized 59 or a Seth Lover.
Chautauqua May 29th, 2012, 10:05 PM WRHB (Lolar Regal or Telenator modded RI WRHB) end of Story... Problem with that is, you'll never like the sound of your "other" humbucker... Put a coil-split on that (if you're sold on needing that feature, I'm def. not) and then toss that "other" thing in the trash and put a real Tele SC back in the bridge position (since it's routed for a bucker, maybe even do it "reverse" angle Jimmi Hendrix style. That's just what I'D do, and I have NO idea what style of music you play and what tones you're looking for so... that said, I can jam with anyone shy of say "Dragonforce" and then I'd never WANT to play with a band like them so...
I play a 72 Tele Deluxe (two WRHB's) and while I can get great "QUACK" out of the bridge pup when used solo, my favorite tones come from the neck pup or both. The bridge is such a specific sound I tend to only use it for "certain songs" (the quack you get almost sounds like a "wah" effect off of a multi-effects pedal where you're not in control of the actual effect if that makes any sense).
YMMV
Cheers
Dave
dada May 29th, 2012, 10:12 PM I have a GFS Fatbody in the neck with the L'il 59. Beautiful combo for me. You can split, and run them parallel/series for lots of sweet tones. Fun stuff....

bigmuff113 May 29th, 2012, 10:19 PM The TS is single coil, so no routing
StratBluesRock May 29th, 2012, 11:04 PM Due to the fact that you put a humbucker in your Tele, you ain't be getting my help
mike is here May 30th, 2012, 12:55 AM Just raise the neck pickup a little closer, or drop the bridge pickup a little lower, or both. I have a tele with a hot rails in the bridge, and whether it's split or full humbucker it's a lot louder than the neck single coil, so I did this and it all sounds good now

Ok, color me uninformed... sorry mate, I didn't realize that the "mini' was essentially a Humbucker in a single coil package so to speak. Although SOME Tele bodies seem to be routed for "regular" buckers so... in that case I stand by my "WRHB" comment... if not, I've always loved the sound of a 'Strat" Texas Special SC in the neck of a Tele. I love that "ping" you get from Strat pups combined with the great sustain that "the big slab board" that is a "Tele"gives you...
Cheers

Don't worry, is just an experience. I'm really thinking in putt the SD Vintage Stack back.
Thx a lot.
Clifton C May 30th, 2012, 11:43 AM I have a paisley reissue with a Little '59 in the bridge, and a Gibson mini-humbucker in the neck position. I like the combination--the Gibson's output is a little less than the Duncan, and the tone is rounder. They really make for a nice combination of sounds. The only down side is you would have to get the body routed in order for the pickup to fit.
I imagine that you could probably wire it like a Big Apple Strat and get a wide variety of sounds.
YoGeorge May 30th, 2012, 02:48 PM The MIM should already be routed for a full size bucker in the neck so all you need is a pickguard cut for a big bucker.
The Duncan lil 59 bridge pickup is way over the top, though, like a big JB pickup, but a Duncan '59 neck bucker would be a decent starting point if you like the lil 59. I have a Duncan 59 neck pickup in a MIM tele, but with a Duncan Hot Tele single coil in the bridge. (I have had 2 or 3 lil 59's over the years and never really settled in with one.)

63dot May 30th, 2012, 03:00 PM Lil '59 and JBs are still narrow magnetic field ceramic pups, but seem to get the overall effect of full sized alnico humbucker. One thing compensates for another. The Hot Rails, a great metal and punk pickup, also ceramic, is just a tad bit too hot for a lot of clean work, IMHO.
Chrismo May 30th, 2012, 06:10 PM Duncan Jazz is the magic pickup for that one.

A_D_B June 22nd, 2012, 08:09 AM Hi guys. First of all, thanks for the tips and opinions.
I put a chromed '59 SD (SHN-1) on the neck (I changed my STK-1 with a local luthier, who had a client interested), splitted both humbuckers (both are '59 models), and the tone is amazing. Really good in my valve Blackstar amp. I put a push/pull for each humbucker, now I have 08 different tones.
Someone interested in pictures?
Thx,
Andre "from Brazil"

This is a guitar forum...of COURSE we want pictures!
Bartholomew3 June 22nd, 2012, 08:58 PM I put a lil 59 into a 68 tele with a D'Imarzio PAF at the neck.
It worked out really well but the neck p/u was a bit bass-heavy. Now have the originals back in there.
If I did it again I would pair it with a SD Jazz - I have one in a Les Paul and it's a great p/u for Blues, Jazz, Pop, Classic-Rock, Latin, whatever.
