MikeMurray May 28th, 2012, 11:20 AM Hey guys
I bought a set from Reilander a while back, and looking for another set, but budget is tight and looking for a relatively specific spec.
Anyone know of any well priced winders besides Mike?
Thanks
Telenator May 28th, 2012, 11:30 AM That's a tall order.
A specific, "custom" wound pickup on a tight budget?
How 'bout just reading the specs on GFS pickups and buying the one that is closest to what you want.
MikeMurray May 28th, 2012, 12:04 PM Ok it seems cheap is a relative term :)
I'm just looking to find out if there are more chaps that are catering to the cheaper end of the custom market. Not looking for GFS cheap, I mean I might as well stick with what I have there.
I suppose I do have the option of getting a pair of Gibson P90s and just pulling a couple of thousand of turns off :D

You can try the Creamery out of the UK, not exactly the cheapest (probably like a 1000 rand per pup - small discount for a set), but hand wound and made to your specs.

PhilT May 28th, 2012, 12:29 PM Catswhisker Pickups in the UK make awesome pickups to your specs but again with shipping I'd guess about 1,000 rand each.
MikeMurray May 28th, 2012, 12:39 PM Hahha thanks folks. Forget how nice TDPRI can be, even giving me pricing in rand! I'm used to importing all my goodies, I'm just upgrading a MIC tokai so don't want to drop $480 on a set of Throbaks or $220 on Lollars etc.
Big Mike Reilander charges $125 for a set, and they sound pretty damn good! Got a 7.2k A5/5 and 8.2k A5/5 that I lent from a friend that's sounding quite good, but looking to get a 7k with small A5s and a 8.5k A5/8. Should hopefully balance things out and make the bridge nice and thick :D
@Hongaku, ek sê niks, speel neet kitaar!!
musicalmartin May 28th, 2012, 12:43 PM Tonerider are very good .Far better than the usual far eastern cheapies .I used them to upgrade PRS SE's
MikeMurray May 28th, 2012, 02:46 PM Thanks Martin, but as stated in the post directly before yours, I'm looking for a particuarly low wound set, nothing like the Tonerider P90s.

Ho$h! Poes cool mate
Sounds like going with Reilander again might be your best bet!

US$85 each. I have the Hot Howling Goat bridge pickup and love it. Never gets muddy despite being a little higher output than his vintage wind. I also have some damn fine Manlius humbuckers. Ignore the youtube demos - they don't give any idea of what the pickups sound like. I have Lollars in other guitars, and the Manlius pups are right up there in quality and quite a bit cheaper.
kiwi blue May 28th, 2012, 06:27 PM Correction: $15 cheaper per pickup than Lollars. So maybe "a bit" cheaper rather than "quite a bit" cheaper.
Jakeboy May 28th, 2012, 07:10 PM I can recommend 3.....Rumpel Pickups are great, inexpensive, hand wound, and Aaron
is now winding p90s!
Vintage Vibe can wind great p90s at a good price.
Tex-tone Pups winds great p90s to your specs at a fair price.
Lastly, try to locate a set of Gotoh alnico olds p90s from a Peavey Firenza. GREAT sounding p90s with plenty of snottiness!
But that's 4!! You want a low wind...forget the Gotoh set and go with the first 3. Call Rumpel now.....

oldtimer&r May 28th, 2012, 08:51 PM I got a set of Seymour Duncan "Hot" P-90s, for sale. PM me if you're interested. It's the model used by Mike Ness in Social Distortion & Ricky Medlocke of Lynard Skynard.

Hand made US. Well priced, and can be tailored to your needs. Can't beat them. Really great pick ups.
