No Joke, I really could not decide.

Over the years I have grown more and more admiring of Redd. He is just the
consummate player. Everything he plays is just exactly right for the song, and that is the mark of a person who has mastered the instrument.

So I was digging on some of the videos with Redd and Don Kirchner, and was trying to figure out which one to post. It was a dilemma because they're all great.
Then I ran across these vids. Redd playing with a big band. I love this stuff and if I could make a living playing it I would be gone.
Anyway, just Awesome. The band is smokin' and their upright player is really really on the money. Enjoy

The rendition of Your Cheating Heart is one of the coolest things I have heard in a long time.

Redd, you are the MAN.

Bravo!
Just what I needed this morning.
Such a tight band, and that was a rehearsal (they were making notes)?

Any details anywhere about the guitar he's using? The edging reminds me of silvertone/danelectro's vinyl.

I love this. But i'm a fan of band leaders with horns like Gatemouth Brown, Bobby Bland and Albert Collins...all those Texas cats on the Peacock/Duke label in the late 40's and 50's really get me going. The more horns onstage the better.

Thanks for posting.

I think the guitar is a Hahn.

Great, now I have to add Redd to my list of favourite jazz players too.

First, I owe everybody an apology. I wrote Don Kirchner when I meant Bill Kirchen. Redd and he have some galactic vibrations going on a few vids on YT.

Elihu-I feel just the same. We were talking about this at a gig, how much we love horns. You get 16 of horns together and the music they make is like no other.
It's kind of weird though. I played with the jazz band in college but prior to that I had never worked with horns. Liked them, but had never played with them. They first time I went to rehearsal I was hooked. As good as they are to listen to, they are way better to play with.
