Help - First time...

Just tried wiring up my first build, have the artec hotrail in the bridge and tesla vr-te in the neck, but I think i've messed something up. It appears that only the Tesla is playing regardless of which switch i flick to, and the tone put buzzes whenever i touch it. i'm using an import selector, which has made the whole thing slightly more confusing, but I think i've got everything wired? I was unsure of whether to ground the switch selector, could this be the problem?

Sounds to me like you've got a different problem. The switch itself doesn't have to be grounded, but it won't hurt anything.

You've got two problems there, so it's best to divide and conquer, solve one at a time. Disconnect the tone control altogether, and straighten out your selector problem. Test and make sure it plays right no matter what switch combination you use.

After you do that, connect that tone pot and troubleshoot it.
