Fralin Blues Special Pickups Stagger & Taped Magnets

I’m getting ready to buy new pickups for a Baja Tele and wanting to try a set of the Fralin Blues Specials to get closer to the Brad Paisley type tones. I’ll probably go with the Blues Specials Custom set that has the 2% overwound neck pickup with cover and 5% overwound blues brifge pickup.

Fralin offers a few options that I want to learn more about before buying a set.

1) The three stagger styles are flat poles (Broadcaster), flat with a raised D magnet (Hybrid), and stock stagger.

I called Fralin and they said both the Stock and Hybrid Stagger would work fine with a 9.5” radius neck, but wanted to get some more opininions and thoughts on it.

2) I noticed at one of the online dealers wriiten on the Fralin box it reads “Taped Mags” which stand for taped magnets. The dealer mentioned that taped magnets eliminates the possibility of a short between the coil and the magnets. I also read a comment on the forum that Fralin recommended taped magnets when using a 4-way switch. otherwise you’d get a bad buzz if you touch the pup when in the series position.

I haven’t heard much about this option and on paper sounds like a good thing, but there must be a downside to it since it’s not a standard feature. Any thoughts?

I plan to give Fralin a call again before buying a set, but I’d like to get some users experiences as well.

Thanks!
