So my Jimmie Vaughan strat lacquer black/clear came out fantastic. With the modified Texas Specials, it sounded great and that mint green pickguard was nicer looking than I ever expected. So a little tightening of the pg screw holes was in order, so I did a bit of toothpick in the hole work. Screws nice and tight holding, wonderful. I was working on another guitar and needed to keep this one hanging, so put it in my son's room (he has one of only 2 guitar hangers in our house) and after a couple weeks, I go to get it to check that the setup was all settled out. Aaargh!!! That toothpick tightening was clearly a stressor on the paint and I had a nice crack in the finish right to the wood on the top middle pg screw.
So I manage to screw it up worse, trying to fix it. (should have come back here and asked, but was pissed and embarassed).
At this point, I have a good portion that I've sanded through the clear and tried to build back up and it's all screwed up. So.....do I need to rough up and primer the area and respray color and later clear.....or do I need to start all over again and prime and respray the whole guitar?
