Sweet Home Alabamacoolbreeze475 May 24th, 2012, 10:44 AM My attempt at Sweet Home Alabama. Comments Welcome. Thanks. DbBL4DwWdkc chabby May 26th, 2012, 07:02 PM coolbreez - that was the best version I think I've ever heard that didn't copy the solos note for note. You come just close enough to do tribute to the genius of the solos, as if you know them so cold, that you can improvise. That's tricky to pull off. Usually people try to do it so differently it throws Ed King to the curb. That's fine for most folks, but I like the solos in that tune to be true. Heck I don't even like that song after Steve Gaines came aboard. He seems to intentionally try to make his own mark on it (which I understand) but Ed King's guitar work makes that song. coolbreeze475 May 28th, 2012, 10:12 AM Chabby Ed King did some great guitar work (like Swamp Rock). When it comes to the Classic Rock he's one of my favorites. I wish I learned his guitar work better than I did instead of just fluffing through it. He also played in a 60's band before Skynyrd (I forgot what they were called though). We've all heard the song so/too many times probobly but even to this day I hear things new in the background that I never noticed before. chabby May 28th, 2012, 09:44 PM It was crazy how close to the strat your tele sounds, which is also critical for that tune. how'd you do that? If i closed my eyes I would have said 'strat" And the band was "Strawberry Alarmclock" their hit "incense peppermints" chabby May 28th, 2012, 09:50 PM Ed was a California Surf guitarist gone rogue-lol Thats why his solos are so quirky and intelligent, he really added a sophistication to band with plenty of the other, so he balanced them. coolbreeze475 May 29th, 2012, 11:57 AM There's a middle pickup in that tele so I've got the selector switch in the bridge/middle pickup position. Yea Strawberry Alarmclock that was it. Thanks Chabby. Telelite May 29th, 2012, 05:14 PM Great tone, and the licks are brilliant. I've heard this song done badly s many times. It's refreshing to hear it done this well. Nice one! olavodias May 29th, 2012, 07:48 PM Nice tone and playing! BTW, you sing very well TeleTim911 May 29th, 2012, 08:41 PM I must say, I opened this thread with "Oh my gosh, here we go again"....thinking I'm going to listen to yet another GC 14-yr. old "attempting" to play some song they have no idea how. Wow, was I ever wrong. Way to go man, good job...not just first rate playing but singing was great too. I love how you hit the major highlights of the leads, and then add your own flair to it. Excellent! Good job! czgibson May 29th, 2012, 08:57 PM Just another fan here, man. No musician is entirely happy with their playing, right? I bet you're the same. It sounds like there's a bunch of us here who wish we could play as well as you, though. And you can sing at the same time? Don't get me started. coolbreeze475 May 31st, 2012, 09:04 AM Telelite, olavodiaz, TeleTim911, & czgibson: Thanks all. |
