Bronco Refresh

My brother was having some issues with his bass so I told him to bring it and I'll check it out. Found it had some grounding issues and a bad jack, he's had it for 15 years. I figured since his birthday is coming up next month I'd put all new parts in it. Got on the laptop, found it used a strat pick up to my surprise. I ordered some new Bourns 500k's, Switchcraft jack, and a white 10k Lil Killer from GFS. I found some time last Saturday and soldered the new stuff in and took some pics to post on FB letting him know it's done. Pretty pleased with the outcome. And without further ado, the finished product.

So that 4 string bass uses a 6 string Strat pickup? Or is it just a Strat shaped pickup with 4 polepiece slugs?

It's a rail pickup, so no individual pole pieces

6 slug pickup with a cover, I was surprised. It definitely is a strange setup, but it is a late 90's Squier Affinity. But now it just has 2 blades :mrgreen:

Yeah I hope his year off doesn't kick him in the butt, with the team they already have, adding Peyton to the roster should be interesting.

That is definitely a cool b-day present! I'm guessing it sounds much better with the new pickup and pots?

Yeah I'm awful nice to him, he never had a real amp until I got him one for graduating from college last May. Of course it was 2 fold and worked out for me so I'd have some one to jam with at my place until he got a job and moved to Springfield:mrgreen: Before that he always played it through his computer or out of an old cheapo karaoke machine. I can't really remember how it sounded before, I messed around with it when he brought it over, then 3 weeks later I put all the stuff in, it definitely is a little louder and has more bite to it, seems a slight bit darker, but way more clear and not muddy like it was before, even though it originally had 500k's and I just changed the pots out and left the values the same. But it sure looks cool now!
