For awhile now I have settled on using the 51 P (Tele) Bass pickup on my tele body bass project. It will be used in the bridge position.

with tele bridge plate & cover:

I still have a route at the neck that I want to fill (because of the opening in the pickguard) & have considered many options from a tele guitar neck pickup to a mock pickup. Still I`m holding out hoping to find a bass PU that will fit neatly ( with a minimal amount of tweaking). I`m now looking at the Bronco bass pickup because it appears to have the same general shape needed for the job.
Anyone have experience using this one in the neck position? Or in using the first PU shown at top of page for a neck PU?
Here is a photo of the route I need to fill ( don`t want to cover it with an esquire PG because I definately want tort which I cannot find in an esquire).

And one of the Bronco Bass PU:

I`m going for a similar look to the guitar shown below but with the rear of the bridge cover opened up to allow the strings to pass through connecting to a top load Bronco bridge. A brown tort PG will be used:

There are a lot of Tele guitar options but I`m hoping to use a bass PU at both positions. Thanks & take care. Bob

Where did you get that beautiful body?

Hi Glen . Its an SX I found on ebay. The neck is also SX (Jazz short scale).

Wait a minute I just realized that you have to be refering to the guitar. Its from ebay as well. Not mine , just used the photo URL to link to from my Touching Basses gallery. I need a lot of little odds & ends for my project. As it is i am spending more on shipping that I am on parts themselves. Looking for one person with a lot of little parts ( springs & screws etc) that can send in one little package. Are you an odds & ends guy? Thanks & take care. Bob

I was referring to the body with the f-hole. I hear you on ebay shipping costs. I find it frustrating when I see a seller who advertises free shipping to then see that the free shipping only applies to the USA and I have to pay through the nose for delivery to Canada.

I`m really hoping that there is enough headstock to work with to get a Tele profile. Lots & lots to figure out (as I go) but i undertook the project knowing it would be a good learning experience. Take care. Bob

Looks good Bob, seems room for improvement on the headstock, ultralite perhaps?

Modded my Sx headstock, doesn't look like a Tele but at least it doesn't look like it did.

Thanks ThreePly. I already have a set of traditional Grover clover leafs that I will try to use. If that does not work out ( trying to stay very low budget here) I will have to explore opptions. The holes are now drilled oversize now & the tuners I have seem to fit OK so far but I still have a lot of other work to do on the headstock before i will be happy with it. Take care. Bob

psychetelec you`re right. It does look a lot better after you worked it. Heres a close up of mine as it is now:

I left the shape as-is when I converted my short-scale into a VI.

rotor from this forum has been kind enough to share a tele headstock profile pattern with me that should help a lot.

Pickup decisions are the only thing hoding me back now. Hopefully I will be able to resolve the issue with the outcome of this thread. Take care. Bob
