Middle pickup to match SD STR52 Five-Two set?

Hi guys,

Can any body suggest me a good pickup to match the Seymour Duncan Five-Two pickups? Used as a middle pickup a-la Brent Mason style with a blend volume pot rather than a 5 way switch. Or at least an educated guess at what might work well?

I'm building myself a partscaster to get me started with building until I can afford a few extra tools that we haven't got at home, that I would need.

Cheers!

The 5/2 Strat pickup should do the trick.

Great cheers I've found it. It's a little cheaper than the STR52's as well.

Will there be any issue with having both the neck and middle pickup reverse wound? Or what will happen if they are both RW?

Will I not get hum cancelling when the middle pickup is blended with the neck pickup?

I think, and I may be wrong here, you won't get hum cancelling. Usually the middle pickup is reverse wound in a 3 pickup guitar so that the notch positions with the neck and bridge are hum cancelling.

Ok, so it's no big problem then really. I'm sure I can cope with that.

Many thanks!

Hi, I did this mod with exactly the same p/u's a few years ago and have just had it removed because of the relatively poor sounds.I notice you live just down the road from me (I'm a monkeyhanger). If you send me a private message with a phone no., I'll get in touch and discuss the pros and cons if you want

Thanks Bill that'd be cool I'll drop you a PM!

I'm quite tempted just to go with the standard Tele config for now and not worry about getting so complicated for the time being. It'll bring the initial cost down too of course.

Don't do anything until we've spoken at the weekend.
Regards,
Bill.

You should still have hum cancelling with the bridge+middle pickups and with the bridge+neck pickups but not in any other positions.
