VOX AC30 Amplug owners, help?

Hey all,
I just got a Vox AC30 amplug for late night jamming. It is a cool little device with pretty decent sound.
However, it seems to have a very prominent hiss. (it hisses on clean tones and when it is not plugged into a guitar). The hiss is less prominent with the gain very low and the tone turned down very low. However, even at low settings it is still there.

Is this normal or do I have a lemon?

Thanks in advance!

Mine has a pretty pronounced hiss, too. I think that it must be normal and found that I just ignored it after a while.

Thanks so much for your replies.
I played a bit more with it last night. I noticed the hiss is louder when the volume is turned up high. When the volume is down and the gain is up a bit, there is less of a hiss.

It is a pretty cool device, nice for headphone jamming.

its the same when you plug into the amp? This thingy emulates the hiss from your unshielded single coil pickups too.

It works great with a Bass, btw.

I bought the little wood extension cab they sell to go with those amplugs, I think the sound is better through the cab, but of course then you lose the headphone capability. I can just lay on my bed with the cab near my ear and blast away at low volume and still not bother anyone else in the house.

Mine behaves the same way. It seems the amp stage is causing it proportionally to the volume. With more gain you end up lowering the volume so the hiss is not audible anymore. I found that you can lower the tone up to a point where the hiss gets eliminated but your treble from the guitar signal is still there. This thing is way too bright with the tone cranked anyway.
It'd be a great device with a little bit less hiss and a built-in reverb (I know other amplug models have a digital delay so adding reverb seems possible).
