Help, I need a part but have no idea what it's called

Hi there.

I have a Mexican Fender Telecaster 72 Custom http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/electric_guitars_detail.asp?stock=03121114170118

I'm selling all my electric stuff to pay off debts (and only really play acoustic now), but realised that when doing a string change a while back I must have lost one of the circular metal bits on the back of the guitar where the string enters.

I have no idea what it's called so thought here would be the best place to ask:smile:.

The other thing is that the jack socket has been pushed into the guitar. Is this an easy fix?

Thanks for very much for any help

Cheers,

Mike

It's a string ferrule. Replace it before you restring or you can tear the poop out of the hole.

I always keep extras in my case in case I break a string when I'm playing and the ferrule goes rolling into the audience.

It's called a ferrule. Google it, they're quite cheap with many place to buy.

Those cup jack holders on the Tele are a pain in the butt. They are held in place (sort of) by a pointed metal piece bent to generate a bit of spring tension (a retainer clip). Have someone pull the jack out of the body and replace it with an Electrosocket type cup, which is held in place by a small screw into the side of the hole.

It's a nort.
Any little thing I'm not sure what to call is a nort.

Try Axesrus for the string ferrules, £4.50 for 6 and free shipping.

The socket replacement needs care and patience if doing it yourself and there are 2 kinds of Electrosocket in the UK.
The one that fits MIM Teles is available from Allparts, the Axesrus version uses a different screw thread for the jack socket.

+1 on Axesrus for bits.

The Electrosocket from them seems to have a tapered thread for a good tight fit (all electronic parts are metric thread these days). I've had no problem with MIM or MIA jacks on same part, just tight fit needing a vise before install, same for both.
