What do you all recommend? Under $200 just need a practice amp for home use.

Used, something like a Peavey TKO or TNT. Roland Cube. I had an Ibanez bass amp that went through my hands that was nice. Some of the newer Acoustics seem to be good buys.

I'll second Acoustic. For the money, you'll have a tough time finding a better amp.

For my practice amp I use a Fender Rumble 60 that I bought on the CL for $80. I like it. Take care. Bob

I wou;d recommend NOT buying a Fender Rumble 15. It's underpowered and rattles when you turn it up. I had a Peavey Maxx 158 and loved it (but sold it when I bought a used Carvin Power Bass 100 with a 10-inch speaker, an excellent amp if you can find one used for under $200; I paid $135). I liked the under-$200 Ampeg I tried in Guitar Center but I forget the model number. A used Gallien-Krueger Backline 110 would also be good.

CB30-Roland Bass Cube 30. Mine was about $150 (used).
It looks as though I bought it new, a month or two ago...

I really like my 2010 Fender Bassman 100. Single 10" speaker and semi Parametic Eq. Monitor style cab so it can lie back, tilted up, towards you.

Roland Cube would be your best bet in that price range.

I have one of these and I can dial in any tone I want with it.

I wouldn't want a bass amp with a single 8" speaker. I won't even buy a guitar amp with an 8". Personally I'd move up to at least a 10" but that's me.

If your budget is in the $100 range your choices are limited and that one may be as good as any other.

Here are two more choices in the $100-$150 range.

Traynor XM50. Built like a tank, lots of features, great tone and reliability, small but easily professional quality. I've used one for years, pretty much since they hit the market.

I bought one last fall as my first - it didn't seem like there was much tone diff between the 8 & the 10, so I bought the 8 and used the extra money towards a pedal. I use it strictly for bedroom practice/learning songs, and rarely have the volume over 3. I'm actually using it for guitar practice as well now.

The amp is a little noisy (hum), but I assume you're not gonna be micing it. (the hum gets drowned out once you start playing) No buzzing/rattling so far.

I just listened to a demo of the Acoustic B-20 - it does sound much cleaner to me, if that's what you're after. (Ampeg = darker)

Idk tho really because I play punk so the darker Ampeg my sound good for what I play! Nofx,Pinnywise, rise against, old green day, stuff like this might be a good idea to just get the Ampeg? Will see

By darker, I meant "bassier" (or warmer) by nature - I'd call it more of a vintage pop/rock/blues tone. There's an official demo on youtube that you can listen to - it'll give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

Acoustic is a great practice amp. You'll be happy. Get the highest powered one you can afford. Be sure to check out the AB50 if youcan find one. It's a little wedge shaped amp meant for acoustic-electric basses, but it's awesome for all basses.
