Sooper8 May 22nd, 2012, 01:53 AM Hi All,
We had fun at practise the other night while jamming 'Jailhouse Rock', with each member of the band filling in that very short pause between each Fsharp slide up to G and back around again when the drummer strikes the snare twice
We played it around for ages with every band member filling that gap (drummer and bass included)
It was great fun but that pause is just too short to do much at all (although that was part of the fun).
Does anyone have any suggestions for songs where we can do the same thing but with a better length space to fill?
(we were also thinking about that Beatles song off the second side of Abbey Road where all 3 play a solo) but that just isn't a song we can do.
Any suggestions? (our general thing is covers of rock, country, alt, indie).
Anyone else do anything similar ?

swellsmd May 22nd, 2012, 06:32 AM I always do it last song of the night One Way Out. Seems to work good for us.
GigsbyBoyUK May 22nd, 2012, 06:44 AM I introduce the band when we are sticking on one chord, eg first chord of a 12 bar. Makes it simple all round and means everyone can solo as short or as long as they like.

we do this one and it is well received... plenty of room to rip it up and good stops and starts.
Commodore 64 May 22nd, 2012, 11:40 AM Pick a Blues standard (One Way Out as previously mentioned), Crossroads, Done Somebody Wrong. Those are standard 12 bar blues song that everyone knows how to play. Just take turns soloing until you (or the crowd) gets tired.
Big John Studd May 22nd, 2012, 11:56 AM I love how Buck introduces and lets each member of the band take a ride in the middle of Johnny B. Goode without missing a beat.

bargoedboy May 22nd, 2012, 03:52 PM We tend to take a different approach by having a song where a member gets to shine a little.
For example our Bassist does a solo on outro of Burning Love.
But we have been looking at a way to introdue the band members and two songs have been suggested so far in Dance to the music and Memphis Soul Stew
Memphis is looking favourite at moment:cool:
Old Cane May 22nd, 2012, 04:39 PM We do it whenever one of us wants a Camel. Silver Wings, LaGrange, Crazy, Folsom.

Wow, gave up Hank Aaron's 715th and does the rock and roll! ;)
I like the way Buck introduces the guys over the I chord and then they rip it up for the rest of the form. Works well musically and isn't tiring for the audience (or the band).
Spooky is another good one to bring it down on while introducing the players and letting them jam a little.
Any James Brown tune is good for that too.

Lee-Tele July 24th, 2012, 12:34 AM We discovered the Chicago version of Winwood's "I'm a Man" is a great tune to jam on and everyone gets a solo turn. Really fun to play and cut loose with solos.
