Drummer thang

So, after all the posts about finding a drummer and all my derogatory remarks (not just here, just about drummers for the last 35 years) I finally did get a little miffed at a drummer last week.

We got a last minute call. All of our top 5 drummer choices were either on the road or otherwise booked. So my buddy (1) that plays with a big time band we all know was gone to Lousiana to play the weekend recommended a big dog that had begged him to throw some work his way. He took the thing on Wednesday morning and about midnight called to say that he was backing out. This guys is kind of a big deal. In master sessions (you hear him a good bit on the radio), in production, national seminars, etc. so I was kinda looking forward to it. I'd never met him.

Anyway we called another guy Thursday and it worked out great but I was still disappointed. Not in the guy we got; it couldn't have been much better.

So buddy 1 calls on the way back sunday night asking how it went. I told him the deal and he said the same thing I did. I bet his wife had something to do with it as he was supposed to play in church on Sunday morning and he was already playing down the road Friday night.

So, I guess this isn't so much a drummer rant as it is about keeping your word (even when you wife rides you about it). Playing live to me is like a team sport with no one on the bench. When the running back doesn't show up it kind of messes with you.

I just thought it kind of funny after me poking at all of you guys to "just get another one" we had to do that 3 times for one night.

A guitar player locked his keys in his van at a gig.
It took him and the Bass player an hour-and-a-half to get the Drummer out.

And how long to find the chick singer if she was unattended for that long?

She was holding a Light Bulb, waiting for the world to revolve around her.

Uh, ok. Why?

ST - if we're just doing punchlines how about "oh, you're not gonna like Thursdays"
