Geoff738 May 22nd, 2012, 12:20 AM wXBba77U1_Y Way too long since I've had a Joni binge. The high school band is up for another jam at the end of June, and the drummer has suggested this tune. Weird - I thought he hated Joni! In any event, a bit of a departure from our usual Zep/Stones/classic rawk stuff. We should try it. Maybe. But yeah, Blue and Court and Spark are just sublime. I'm a bit spotty on the stuff after that, although I have a couple of them. An artist in the true sense of the word! Nothing superficial there ... trev333 May 22nd, 2012, 04:34 AM I've always loved the Coyote story... one of the greatest stories in a song I've heard.. so many great lines/rhymes, we've all seen that Coyote in our travels too...or had them as a mate... Jonis writing/observation of her life/times just puts you right there with her, in some way... she takes you on that journey,.. , and then there's her playing/melodies to go with those tales that does it.. the stage persona/vocal range... I just watched klasaines live vid 5 times... it's been a while since I heard the tune,it still sounds as good as the first time I heard it on release... instant favourite.... what a babe... a frikkin angel... so expressive when she plays/sings.. otherworldly... we are fortunate to have her amongst us... elihu May 22nd, 2012, 06:04 AM Great thread CLC. Joni is a phenomenal writer...melodies and lyrics equally as great. Nice to hear some songs i haven't heard in awhile and some i just haven't heard. Stumbled across this duet and thought i post. Nice blend of her voice with JT's and there's something about that girlish giggle at the first. Thanks Elihu! Some good stuff here. ac15 May 22nd, 2012, 06:01 PM Could not agree more. When the word is overused as much as it is, I almost hate to apply it to Joni but... LEGEND. Yeah, the thing about Joni is that she's the musical equivalent of what's known in baseball as a "five tool player." She's got it all....songwriting, originality, great singing, advanced sense of melody and harmony, fantastic lyrics. I mean, hell, even the art she draws on her albums is amazing. Very, very few people can claim mastery in any of those areas, let alone all of them. She has reached a standard we should all aspire to (even though it's almost impossible for just about everyone). swellsmd May 22nd, 2012, 06:10 PM Heart thumping loudly! chilldude May 25th, 2012, 09:43 AM Yup, there's no question she's a true genius! Had the pleasure of seeing her at Ravinia with Pat Metheny and Jaco in the band. Few artists have the ability to go from folk to jazz and make it work. I've always wished I could write the kind of quality into the music like she does. She's the whole package. brewwagon May 25th, 2012, 04:35 PM genuine canadian talent greggorypeccary May 25th, 2012, 05:02 PM But yeah, Blue and Court and Spark are just sublime. Frontier9 May 25th, 2012, 05:30 PM Brings me to tears... _T_EOA9k898Haven't thought of that song in many years. It was a favorite of a special someone from my youth... nice memory. Hejira is an amazing album - just started listening to that again. Black Crow from that album is one of my favorites. chabby May 26th, 2012, 12:46 PM Thanks for turning my mind back toward Joni - a genius of Biblical proportions. I went on an all day listening spree to everything she's done. My favorite still is after all this time her live perrformance with the Band of "Coyote" at the Last Waltz. Her amzing musicianship along with her enormous brain, make her the single most attractive women I've ever kind of known. It's little wonder she waltzed from musician to musician and other such like-minded types. You can also hear the pain and disappointment in love and it's whole concept (at least betweeen man & Woman) throughout her writing. She is so honest and entertaining, both the ear and the mind. She is a once in a civilization type of artist. One that will likely one day (not that she isn't already) be historically revered for her gifts. Thank God Crosby discovered her, probably the single best thing he ever did. chabby May 26th, 2012, 01:27 PM Zp3lJg07u4w&feature=related That is simply a priceless gem that essentially shows an infant Joni just before the snake of genius bit her. Not that it wasn't there, but it just hadn't yet found her own voice. Of course I mean her own writing. Hers is such an original mish-mash of musical influences, she escapes all genres, but is a genre unto herself. The true mark of genius. And it's that amazing voice, that istelf even defies description. Her voice is likely the most amazing instrument yet invented, or played on this earth by a human being. To describe my approach as a listener when I turn her on, it's to completely open my mind. I can do that if for no other reason, than that voice of hers. It's so beautiful that it almost brings tears to my eyes - and believe me, I'm not prone that. chabby May 26th, 2012, 01:33 PM Yeah, the thing about Joni is that she's the musical equivalent of what's known in baseball as a "five tool player."
